Our campaign is proud to be endorsed by Chris Hedges!
Chris Hedges is a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist, author, and host of the online broadcast The Chris Hedges Report.
In his endorsement, Hedges says:
"I’ve admired and supported the revolutionary socialist Kshama Sawant since she was first elected in 2013 to the Seattle City Council. Her fierce commitment to the working class, her steadfast defiance of the billionaires who destroyed our democracy, and her anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist credentials have long made her a special target.
"The billionaire class has pumped millions of dollars into campaigns to defeat her and orchestrated a recall vote in 2021, which she fought and won.
"Her current campaign for Congress is part of our grassroots struggle to wrest power from the hands of the global ruling class. It is a campaign for free healthcare for all funded by taxing the rich. It is a campaign to raise the minimum wage to at least $25 an hour. It is a campaign to block landlords from extorting massive rents and evicting families. It is a campaign to drive politicians like Adam Smith, a tool of big business who is funded by and subservient to the Israel lobby, from Congress.
"In an age when we stand on the cusp of fascism, we cannot rely on the Democratic Party, whose betrayal of the working class and subservience to the rich gave us Trump.
"We need a political earthquake. We need a revolution. But it won’t happen until we stand with revolutionaries like Kshama."
@SVcrazycatlady Been saying it for 10 years. You can not vote this nightmare away. Need to follow Albania's blueprint. Until they are afraid of the people NOTHING will change. For decades now they've had it rigged the other way around, the people are afraid of them.
@dianitanoticias ASTOUNDING HOW THOROUGHLY SCRUBBED BRAINS ECHO SUPPORT FOR A **COMPLICIT** DEMAGOGUE LIKE NETANYAHU. HE DIDN'T PROTECT ISRAELIS, HAS NO INTEREST IN PROTECTING ISRAEL IS. ONLY PROTECTING THE BUSINESS OF WAR
One of the most interesting aspects of this video is how dismissive he is of ideas he has clearly not thought very much about, like critiques of militarized borders and the modern prison. He sounds like a flat-earther from the middle ages dismissing the idea of a spherical planet out of blind religious devotion to concepts he's never had the curiosity to question.
This highlights something I explore in the chapter called "What we don't know can hurt us" in Copaganda. One of the pervasive problems with mainstream news is that it never actually explains most progressive views. Whenever many progressive views are mentioned in the news (rarely), it is usually only to assert that the idea is controversial or radical or impractical. And the idea is usually described only with a label like "defund the police" but never offering any substance for why so many smart and kind and thoughtful people who develop views based on actual evidence might have come to that view. The result is cycle after cycle of ignorance, millions of words but no shared understanding of what actual policy ideas are even being discussed, let alone rejected. And, as I noted in my recent Copaganda Newsletter on popularity, when you strip labels but poll people on most of these actual policies, they are enormously popular. And they are even more popular the more evidence and time you give people.
Behavior like this from @jonfavs is extremely troubling, particularly because he's one of the few people in a position to delve a bit deeper and to expose people to a whole world of beautiful, solid, popular ideas that actually present the only path forward for a world on the precipice of authoritarian, ecological, technological, and moral catastrohpe.
Zohran using his public office to actually do things he promised must be genuinely bewildering & terrifying to Democratic politicians, consultants, pundits & donors who’ve spent 40 years making excuses for their party almost never fulfilling promises when Dems have been in power.
Even @Morning_Joe has had it with the false claims of antisemitism: "If you want to blame anybody for what happened last night, you have to blame Benjamin Netanyahu."
"The idea that you're going to be able to brutalize children and women in Gaza with bombing that looks indiscriminate on TV day in and day out for years, that you're going to be able to level half of Lebanon, that you're going to be able to continue to allow thugs to run wild in the West Bank, and brutalizing Palestinians, brutalizing Christians in Bethlehem, brutalizing Christians across that area along with Palestinian Muslims, especially Palestinian Muslims, blowing up Catholic churches in Gaza... You can blame all of this on Benjamin Netanyahu."
3 judges with the International Criminal Court filed a lawsuit in a US federal court against Trump and his administration, challenging the sanctions against them and calling it a "financial death penalty."
The judges bringing the lawsuit are:
- Kimberly Prost (Canada)
- Solomy Balungi Bossa (Uganda)
- Reine Adelaide Sophie Alapini-Gansou (Benin)
Trump placed sanctions on the judges over their judicial decisions regarding investigations into war crimes by Israel and the US.
The judges argue that the sanctions are extrajudicial measures meant to punish and coerce them. They say the restrictions cut them off from banking, online platforms, travel booking, and sometimes health insurance.
This should be much bigger news.
Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) — a progressive, anti-Zionist Jewish organization — along with allies, organized a large sit-in protest at New York City’s Grand Central Terminal. Hundreds of participants, many of them Jewish, filled the main concourse during evening rush hour. They sat down in a coordinated act of civil disobedience, holding signs such as “Never Again for Anyone,” wearing black T-shirts with slogans like “Jews Say Ceasefire Now” and “Not In Our Name,” and demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The response from Letitia James, Hakeem Jeffries, Jamie Harrison etc has essentially been to claim their candidates were entitled to victory and that it was underhanded (and maybe racist) to primary them. Not exactly a mystery why that wing of the party is struggling with voters.
The Democratic Party is its voters.
And in primary after primary across the country, they are demanding an agenda to take on the oligarchs, win healthcare as a human right, to end the wars and abolish ICE.
Jennifer Welch: “What happened in New York last night are the citizens standing up against corporations, against fascism, against MAGA, against corporate Democrats, against establishment Democrats, and this is hopefully going to sweep the entire country. Not wanting to fund a country that intentionally targets children is not radical in the least. It is radical, homicidal, and genocidal to kill kids and then to call the people who oppose that antisemitic assholes. This is the biggest bunch of gaslighting fuckery on the planet”
We are American Jews
Israel does not act in our name
Judaism and Zionism are NOT the same at all
Judaism is a major religion that has existed for some 4,000 years
Zionism is a destructive political ideology that has existed less than 150 years
Mark Zuckerberg burns $100 billion a year on dork glasses and failed AI models. I don't ever want to hear about waste in government again until you acknowledge corporate America is far far more wasteful.
This is bone chilling. Unless there is a cultural movement to re-sensitize our society to basic values of liberty, freedom from repression of all kinds, human flourishing, equality of all people, and the need to care for one another, we will walk off a civilizational cliff. An opposition party that routinely accepts the premises of this corrupt violence will hold our hands as we fall.
