And here is our OOPSLA'20 talk https://t.co/eyAdmL50wI
If you only want to know how eval and world age works in @JuliaLanguage, watch 1:20-4:55. Keep watching to know why world age matters :)
And I will be happy to chat during Q&A and after that at #splash20, on Tue & Wed!
Let's try a short thread about the paper :)
— What do we want? OptimizedCode + Eval - HardcoreDeoptimizationStuff
— Wow, is this possible? Yes, @JuliaLanguage found a way!
— How do we do it? We temporarily ignore changes that Eval makes to function definitions.

@TaliaRinger Oh dear, THIS! I have a 34m and a 4m old, and the level of management required to survive is brutal. I'm also breastfeeding (mostly pumping). I would be down to joining an online community for academic parents of young kids if there is one (or creating one if not).
As the author of this PDF, it's been interesting seeing people guess at the rationale behind its design. However, the rationale had nothing to do with theory vs practice, and everything to do with pragmatically coping with an unaccommodated disability in academia. (1/16)
@ilyasergey Not an academic conference, but LambdaConf provided childcare at the conference hotel (two ladies looking after kids in a double room). I have never heard of childcare at academic PL conferences :( would be very interested to read more replies here...

Our ICS'24 paper "Arkade: k-Nearest Neighbor Search With Non-Euclidean Distances using GPU Ray Tracing" was nominated for the best paper award -- good job Durga and everybody! https://t.co/YBXwwasGxC
It's a new field to me, but it's so exciting what you can do with GPUs today!..
Got extremely lucky with POPL this year: thorough reviews, and the reviewers asked all the right questions. Really glad to have had such a positive experience, especially after many tough final months of my PhD.
If anyone is interested in listening to my thesis defense (and maybe asking questions!), it will start in 50 minutes on Zoom. You can get the Zoom link either in this Telegram post: https://t.co/NIFaGzLQHo or by messaging me here or a.pelenitsyn @ https://t.co/xAeh3Kz4fN
I am defending my PhD thesis on Julia subtyping on Aug 2@9 am Eastern https://t.co/xaWPz7TtmW
It's been 5y since I started my PhD, 3.5y since I last saw my family in person and COVID-19 happened, 1.5y since my home country invaded Ukraine, and 9m since my daughter was born...
Not many things went the way I imagined, and I can hardly put my feelings into words.
I definitely wouldn't be able to get to this point without so many good people and plenty of luck.
