Today we're launching the Environment APPG's report on climate resilience. Climate breakdown and ecosystem collapse are already among the greatest threats to public safety. We need a Cabinet Office Minister for Adaptation to drive cross-government action.

Democracy only works when people have access to the facts. That's why I'm supporting @ChrisGPackham's petition calling for a UK-wide public briefing on climate and nature risks.

Britain has entered a new climate reality, and the Government hasn't grasped it.
Last week I led a debate on extreme heat and the cross-government action needed to protect us. Here's some of what I said.
I welcome the new PM to his post, but he failed to mention one of the greatest crises our country is facing: the climate and nature emergency.
Burnham must end speculation and commit to no new oil and gas fields. Anything else is a failure of leadership.
Wow. Finally, a media front page expressing some reality of how bad things are. Thank you @ScotNational
People should be apoplectic at the media who have so far refused to tell the public the full truth of the planetary crisis we are now in.

A plea to anyone living near to Holyrood Park, Edinburgh. Large areas of the park have been decimated by the 🔥 so the local birds will be unable to access the natural food sources they rely on for their survival. Once the park reopens, please head down with bird food & water 🙏
You effing idiot! @andyburnham
An utterly ignorant and nonsensical decision
Look around you for f*ck's sake
And explain your decision to the relatives of the 2,700 people who have just died in the UK as a result of the mass burning of fossil fuels

@TheGreenParty@ZackPolanski If this BBC article is correct I am absolutely disgusted. Can we please have someone in power who actually thinks about the future of our kids! He hasn't even been elected, what right does he have to do this?#generalelectionnow

Hi @andyburnham the UK has tens of millions of uncovered parking spaces: from supermarket car parks and retail parks to workplaces and other paved areas.
Why not make better use of the land we have already covered in concrete and tarmac by rolling out solar canopies over parking spaces?
A large-scale programme could potentially generate a significant share of our electricity demand, while providing shade for vehicles, supporting EV charging, reducing pressure on farmland and bringing energy generation closer to communities.
It's a no brainer. Just needs a little leadership 👍
@RealMGSimpson@Nigel_Farage@reformparty_uk And I live in Clacton. I know exactly what a waste of space Nigel has been while MP for Clacton. All his promises before the general election. What a surprise, that was was all forgotten about as soon as he got in.
@RealMGSimpson@Nigel_Farage@reformparty_uk No, you've got this the wrong way round. Nigel's chickening out, hence why we have this by-election. It's a good way to distract people from what he's being investigated for. In the meantime he's making himself look a right idiot by running against a man with a bin on his head!
@JanetOulag92058 I live in Clacton but I'll be voting for Count Binface. What exactly has Farage done for us? He's never around despite his promises before the general election. He's too busy cosying up to his rich buddies. He doesn't live here, he has a flash house in one of the nearby villages.
Blaming asylum seekers for homelessness? What about the 720,000 empty homes in England, and the 1,627,450 second homes in England alone.
Blaming asylum seekers for expensive food shops? What about the £3,100,000,000 profit Tesco made last year?
Blaming asylum seekers for expensive energy bills? What about the £438,000,000,000 made by just 20 energy companies in profit?
Blaming immigrants for not getting an NHS appointment? What about the 260,000+ migrant workers keeping the NHS going? And what about the 25% real term cut in NHS funding, think that could do it?
Blaming people on welfare for a lack of money to fund the NHS? What about the £36,000,000,000 tax gap due to avoidance and evasion by the elite?
It's time to realise it's not immigrants, asylum seekers or people on welfare causing you any harm, it's capitalism and the mega rich hoarding all the wealth.
The long-term cardiovascular risks of SARSCoV2 infection and reinfections
Your heart is under silent, cumulative attack from SARSCoV2, and every reinfection can reload/worsen the damage.
Here a personal recap of 10 important studies from the last 2 years showing exactly how this virus and its reinfections can/may shape (and shorten) your cardiovascular future.
Evidence is clear, long-term, and growing.
Print and show your Cardiologist.
Let’s connect the dots…
1. Immunothrombosis multi-omics study:
3 months after hospitalisation, long COVID patients still have blood biologically “clot-ready” with persistent endothelial activation and prothrombotic signalling.
https://t.co/9yj7zVbgxO
2. IL-6 & SAA 6-year study:
Higher acute-phase IL-6 and SAA levels independently predict cardiovascular events and death up to 6 years later, the initial inflammatory storm leaves a lasting CV mark.
https://t.co/Vk7FvK9fQc
3. MIS-C long-term outcomes:
Up to 4.5 years later, MIS-C raises cardiovascular disease risk 14× and hypertension 9× in children, with risks still accumulating.
https://t.co/itRENsOlOS
4. Viruses & cardiac disease review:
SARS-CoV-2 stands out for direct cardiomyocyte invasion + explosive damage + relentless accumulation of risk with every reinfection.
https://t.co/fOX07JNW2o
5. Mayo PET long COVID study:
Persistent cerebral hypometabolism in fatigue/PEM patients still detectable up to 2 years post-infection.
https://t.co/puvllNfghC
6. Reinfection CV outcomes summary:
Reinfections worsen cumulative heart damage, arrhythmias, thrombosis, stroke risk and long COVID cardiovascular symptoms.
https://t.co/B3q7DzyxCZ
7. Youth reinfection & long COVID study:
Reinfection roughly doubles PASC risk, with myocarditis up to 3.6× higher, heart disease ~2× higher and increased thromboembolism.
https://t.co/aqN3VV0kMX
8. Mild infection + reinfection risk:
Even mild cases trigger lasting endothelial damage and prothrombotic state (1.5–2× long-term CV risk), each reinfection compounds the burden.
https://t.co/SvPzOBSOx1
9 Mitochondrial dysfunction in long COVID:
Persistent mitochondrial dysfunction and suppressed oxidative phosphorylation remain in long COVID, pointing to durable multi-organ impact.
https://t.co/98MbV19R9r
10. Cumulative reinfection impact on future CV health:
Reinfection stacks additional damage on prior endothelial injury and inflammation, increasing lifetime risk of heart failure, arrhythmias, thrombosis and accelerated cardiovascular disease.
https://t.co/aqN3VV0kMX
11. Extra, my earlier general reminder post on this exact theme: https://t.co/o3QT12nIG4
‼️Overall convergence across the studies:
Immunothrombosis, acute inflammation markers, direct invasion, endothelial damage, and mitochondrial issues create lasting CV vulnerability that reinfections can keep reloading. #L0ngC0vid
The pattern is very clear.
Fewer infections = lower lifetime cardiovascular risk.
You only have one heart.
Protect it!
