It’s a good time to remember that the most dangerous earthquake fault on the West Coast is the Cascadia Subduction Zone, not the San Andreas Fault.
The Cascadia Subduction Zone is capable of producing a megathrust earthquake with a magnitude of 9.0+ and a resulting tsunami up to 100 feet high.
If such a megathrust earthquake occurred today, FEMA estimates that over 10,000 people could die, with tens of billions of dollars in damages.
Recent studies suggest that past Cascadia megathrust earthquakes may have also triggered major earthquakes on the northern segment of the San Andreas Fault.
The last megathrust earthquake on the Cascadia Subduction Zone occurred in 1700, an event estimated at magnitude 9.0. It generated a tsunami over 50 feet high, which struck the West Coast and produced major tsunami waves that reached as far as Japan.
Over the past 6,000 years, megathrust earthquakes have occurred on the Cascadia Subduction Zone approximately every 500 to 600 years, but the intervals have ranged from as short as 200 years to as long as 800 years.
It's #WorldOceansDay. Let's leave marine animals where they belong—in the ocean!
Seals in captivity live dull, miserable lives where both their physical & mental health suffer.
Share this post with your friends & remind them never to support the cruelty of marine parks 🦭

More than a dozen @TorrancePD patrol cars are outside the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, and people can be seen leaving underneath crime scene tape. Sky5 is now overhead. https://t.co/C97KXjBxbW
We're sending a big thanks to Nabisco! After working with PETA, Barnum’s Animals Crackers iconic package now shows animals free in nature instead of captive in boxcars. It perfectly reflects that society no longer tolerates using wild animals in circuses! https://t.co/TZfQDQaLeL
