Brothers and founding members of the Pan-African Congress, Mahlomola and Nyakane Tsolo were the President and Secretary-General of the PAC’s Sharpeville branch. In less than a year they built the organisation’s strongest base at the time. Nyakane led the peaceful march which ended in what we today remember as the Sharpeville massacre on this day in history.
At Robert Sobukwe Town yesterday. After battling to locate the Sobukwe graves, Rev Kamangana from the Community Services office escorted me to the site. The Tourism Information Centre does not know where the grave is. 🤷🏾🤷🏾

Upon his release from prison in the late 80s, Uncle Zeph Mothopeng was visited by, among others, the CEO of the Standard Bank - Dr. Conrad Strauss. The CEO offered financial contribution to the PAC. Mothopeng rejected the offer, arguing that the bank had ill-gotten money.

Assata Shakur has passed away at age 78 in Havana, Cuba, according to Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Shakur was a prominent political activist, known for her involvement with the Black Panther Party and the Black Liberation Army. In 1973 Shakur was convicted of killing a New Jersey state trooper during a shootout. She maintained her innocence and, in 1979, Shakur escaped from prison and claimed asylum in Cuba, where she remained until her death “of health conditions related to her advanced age.”
