@okimstillhungry The black footed ferret was presumed extinct (due to human made habitat loss eradicating prairie dogs), a small population was discovered in 1981, and a few different zoos and institutions worked to breed them and bring their populations back

@okimstillhungry AZA-accredited zoos are doing amazing work and zookeepers genuinely want their animals to be released into the wild, but it’s just not always possible. It’s better to have captive animals than none
