Great job opportunity 📢
We are looking for a new Data Scientist in the
@snsf_ch Data Team! #RStats#researchonresearch
Apply and support evidence-based science policy decisions: https://t.co/34KPOxbZ10
In case you don't know yet what to do on Sunday morning: I have been invited by the Naturwissenschaftliche Gesellschaft Winterthur for a talk on research integrity, research culture and opportunities for change. There will also be music, coffee & Gipfeli😍

Saying ‘no’ in science isn’t enough. Stop asking mainly women for volunteer work. Although those efforts can boost the team’s productivity, they are unrewarded and the scientist’s career would have enjoyed a greater boost with more time on research! https://t.co/Sl5ai5PqiH
There is tremendous risk in repeatedly analyzing data as it comes in…
For example, in the absence of any effect, the p-values of repeated t-tests on a growing dataset will randomly walk between 1 and 0!
Thanks to @lakens for inspiring this simulation!

My colleagues at the @snsf_ch just published another interesting data story! They compare the success rate of women and men in project funding and specifically account for several confounding variables. The results show: women and men have equal chances to obtain project funding!
Current data show: gender has no significant effect on project funding decisions at the SNSF. In the #SNSFDataStories we show how we take account of gender-specific confounders in #gender monitoring. https://t.co/0AoXgJv51T
Due to Switzerland’s current status as a non-associated third country in #HorizonEurope, the Swiss government has mandated the SNSF to launch the SNSF Starting Grants 2023. The call opens on 1.11.22. The submission deadline is 1.2.2023.
@Raabe_Isabel Unfortunately, I have only anecdotal evidence ;-) When my son was born, my partner stayed at home for 10 month. Even though I was still breastfeeding, our son was emotionally more attached to my partner for a while. I am convinced that this was great for both of them :-)
More than a year setting up @bridges2022, to spend an amazing week learning about #genderdiversity and #genderissues with amazing people. I do not have words for the excellent team I was working with (not all in the picture), or for the new colleagues I met. Long Life to BRIDGES!
"It is good to see research-informed innovation in grant-giving — even a decade ago, it is highly unlikely that lotteries would have become part of the conversation. That they have now, is in large part down to research."
A brilliant editorial in @Nature

Massive status bias in peer review.
534 reviewers randomized to review the same paper revealing the low status, high status, or neither author. 65% reject low status, 23% reject high status.
Amazing work by Juergen Huber and colleagues. #prc9
How do researchers justify questionable research practices and misconduct? Our team member @AntoniaVelicu successfully gave a talk dealing with this question at the International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators, Granada #STI2022GRX
Looking forward to present our project on the carreer consequences of motherhood in France and Germany at the gender inequalities workshop organized by Uni of Essex in London today.
As a teaser: A map of average years spent out of employment in the 5 years after first birth
Who is #SurveyAcademics?

Our paper on what PhD students expect about the academic job market - and how providing information can impact their beliefs - is now up at the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization:

Thanks to @k_langin for covering it today in @ScienceCareers! 1/6
