most consumers won’t go through the trouble of forking to have a free version of whoop
however, consumer subscriptions should be VERY concerned of what the Muse/Instinct paradigm means for consumer subscriptions
personal agents are showing a power use case in finding $ - cancelling subscriptions you don’t use
but the next step is subscriptions you do use - what if Muse/Instinct/ you name it, goes ahead and does what @hackyguru did for u
exiting whoop after 18 months.
kept the strap, ditched the subscription. it now runs fully local on zhoop (my fork of noop). no fluff metrics, my data stays on my phone.
ai killed vendor lock-in.
day one at @MenloVentures in the books! investing seed through growth across consumer AI + applications. after years of back and forth, SF is finally home (RIP my medallion status, worth it).
one belief that brought me here: AI is collapsing the line between infrastructure and applications. the best consumer AI companies look simple - Suno, WisprFlow, ElevenLabs - but run on their own models. as building gets cheaper, technical defensibility matters more, and distribution matters most: it begets data, data begets a better product. backing teams with all three. if that's you, dms open.
I am forever grateful to @aplusk, @guyoseary, @epsteineffie and the @sound_ventures_ + Decimal teams - some of the best storytellers out there. learned everything about cutting through the noise from watching you work.
excited to go ALL IN on building with @mmurph, @venkyganesan, @shawnvc, @Jormont1978, @amywumartin, @deedydas, matt kraning, @mejoff@timt and the whole @MenloVentures team.🧡
Menlo is excited to welcome @BoleaJuliette to the team as our newest principal!
Juliette is focused on early-stage investments across consumer and AI-native applications, working closely with founders to articulate why their products matter and translate that into effective GTM strategies.

NYC is the fastest city on earth. Everyone told us to buy a billboard. We brought a race car.

WARP SPEED: EPISODE 1 - starring Rahul Sonwalkar @0interestrates
Startups are not about defense, they're about offense.
Rahul built @juliusai into one of the most beloved AI development platforms in the world - less than a year after launching.
In this episode, he explains why founders obsess over moats when they have no customers, no product, no revenue - what are you protecting?
Instead of building defensive strategies, Julius focused on:
- Empowering everyone with their own data analyst
- Building in public while models caught up to their vision
- Creating ownership through radical transparency - whole team does support, rotating all-hands
- Playing offense by shipping fast and learning from users
In this conversation:
0:00 - From Uber and Facebook data bottlenecks to building Julius
01:05 - Who needs Julius: Decision-makers blocked by technical expertise
02:15 - Startups are not about defense, they're about offense
03:17 - Unique company structure: Everyone does support, rotating all-hands leaders
04:24 - "When we first started Julius, the models were not good enough" - how AI breakthroughs unlocked their mission
05:31 - Experience with other payroll providers
06:03 - How Warp removed operational overhead: "Saved us ops headcount"
We took a film crew to SF and sat down with top startup founders, hearing about –
- What problems they're solving
- Contrarian takes on company-building
- How they're using Warp
