I met a young woman from Gaza yesterday who lost her leg in the genocide.

I tried so hard to hard to hide my tears and smile so that I could possibly make her smile.

But then I could tell she was trying to smile to not disappoint me as I was trying to make her smile.

Her mom then thanked me for “all that I’ve been doing”, and I wanted to crawl into a corner. These people are so beautiful that they feel a need to show gratitude to us even though we have utterly failed them. What an ugly world that finds the most beautiful people on earth unworthy of the most basic human dignity.
