@FieldPat @LizaCoombes @madeleine_p83 @BAPTplaytherapy The point is that some families would potentially disengage and not access a therapy that's been stated is touch feely and new age rubbish.
@FieldPat @LizaCoombes @madeleine_p83 @BAPTplaytherapy Just because it's a typical viewpoint, doesn't make it right. Viewpoints that could effect people's access to necessary mental health provision should be challenged.
@itvcorrie this evening made reference to Play Therapy being 'touchy feely, new age rubbish'. The writers are sadly misinformed and have not considered the detrimental effect this flippant comment may have, not only the profession, but also the children and families we work with.
So sad, frustrated and angry at the mis representation of Play Therapy on @itvcorrie tonight. What a huge missed opportunity to support, educate and help families seek help. I’d love to know who wrote this and where they got their info?! @Therapists_C@BAPTplaytherapy
@susannareid100@benshephard@GMB with children's mental health on the rise, being a Play Therapist myself I was really disappointed with the @itvcorrie writer's misrepresentation of my profession. This could have serious repercussions for current and future Play Therapy clients.
We undergo continuous professional training to maintain standards and ethics to support children and their families. The flippant comment and misinformation by your writers may have a detrimental effect not only on the profession, but also the children and families we work with.
A review of child-centred play therapy literature on the overall effectiveness reviewed 52 outcome studies from 1995 to 2010. Findings support child-centred play therapy as a beneficial counselling intervention providing a robust empirical evidence (Lin & Bratton, 2015).
This evening @itvcorrie made reference to Play Therapy as a 'touchy, feely, new age rubbish'. Play Therapists go through rigorous training at Masters level to qualify to work with the most vulnerable in our society.
@LucyLlew1@itvcorrie Not to mention Play Therapists are highly trained and skilled in working with traumatised children! Play Therapy targets the developmental level of the child, not wanting verbalisations of thoughts and feelings and allowing them to distance themselves from the trauma through play
@traumapsychol1 Was a fantastic training and looking forward to putting the training into practice to support children and young people with PTSD and C-PTSD. Enjoy your restful evening. 😀
