#COP30 amplifies calls to close the $365 billion gap 📢
As GCA’s #LocallyLedAdaptation Lead Anju Sharma puts it, "As the adaptation finance gap grows wider, the willingness of countries to support the climate-vulnerable seems to be diminishing. It is a moral imperative for the global community not only to provide adaptation finance, but to do so in a way that ensures it reaches those most in need"

Day 2 at the Devolution Conference 2025 – Another Remarkable Moment for Homa Bay!
Today, we were honored to welcome Hon. Raila Odinga as he visited the Homa Bay Municipality physical model at the County Pavilion — a powerful visual representation of a future shaped by community-driven planning, spatial data, and a bold urban vision.
His visit affirmed the importance of long-term, inclusive planning in shaping the future of Kenyan cities and towns — and we’re proud that Homa Bay continues to lead by example.
At the same time, things are buzzing over at Booth 218, where we’re engaging with attendees from across the country on the Homa Bay Local Physical and Land Use Development Plan. We’re also showcasing our work in water and sanitation, riparian planning, school feeding, and community research — all part of our commitment to building more just, resilient, and liveable urban spaces.
🌍 From national leaders to county officials, community groups to planners — this conference continues to be a space of shared vision and inspiration.
Devolution is alive. Transformation is local. The future is people-led.
📍Come visit us at Booth 218!

"GCA is different because they are coming to the ground to see exactly what people are going through. And when they speak on the global platforms, they speak from real experiences of real people," said Homa Bay Governor @gladyswanga during a two-day visit by GCA President and CEO @Prof_PatrickV to the lakeside county.

Under Governor Wanga’s leadership, GCA supported Kenya’s first locally led, climate-resilient municipal development plan in Homa Bay. 🇰🇪
What began as an adaptation plan became a community-driven vision for inclusive development—designed by the people, for the people.
Youth from informal settlements and Tom Mboya University worked side by side, shaping a resilient future from the ground up.

Key takeaways:
🔹Locally led adaptation must move beyond project-based approaches to long-term, programmatic strategies embedded in governance structures. Local Adaptation Plans should integrate indigenous and scientific knowledge, while ensuring their implementation is owned and led by local actors and communities.
🔹While numerous funding mechanisms have been established over the years, resource allocation often overlooks local priorities and access remains highly challenging for local communities and actors.
🔹Farmers must be at the forefront of adaptation efforts, leading the way in building resilience. Strengthening public-private partnerships in the agriculture sector holds great potential for enhancing food security in the face of climate change impacts
#LLA practitioners, government officials and private sector representatives from South Asia gathered in Kathmandu, Nepal today for a Regional Workshop organized by GCA, in partnership with the Government of Nepal @MOFENepal and @DanChurchAid , and with support from @FCDOGovUK, to reflect upon national initiatives to institutionalize and finance locally led adaptation in the region. Locally led initiatives for enhancing food security were also discussed.
