@tifasweetie I'd have to challenge you on the third. Because you would silence your supporters, and your rights collide with the rights of others who are not trans. Those still have the right to debate your rights and their rights and how these could interact without conflict.
I am sorry to say this, but how do we define "under attack" here? As far as I am concerned, I get the impression that not running with all demands or points of view labels you aggressive or "anti", while completely ignoring the points you would be willing to support.
The question is, what should be done?
@TheDonOfEvery Well, ppl started learning that the weapons of one side can be used by the other side too.
It's stupid how both sides now claim to be victims. Don't do to others what you don't want to be done to yourself. Easy as that, but no one follows that easy advice.
Holy shit, you really are confusing "speaking up for trans ppl" with "speaking about trans ppl".
Fine, have it your way; I am neither paid to be your teacher and communications trainer nor am I willing to invest more time in a lost cause. You failed to express what a "Supporter" should be to your cause or ignored it altogether.
I also never tried to educate you about trans ppl, but about how society works that trans ppl are a part of. You have a knack for selective reading; you demand support without questions asked, without regard to the individuals who have their own opinions or values. If they differ, you see them as your enemy. It doesn't matter if 3 out of 5 points align; you want all 5.
I am also no liberal; I am a moderate, you know, one of the people you either hate or love today, because their POVs seldom align totally with your own. Whatever.
You do you and have it your way. Best of luck, I am out.
Okay, let me educate you on something, since you seem too young to understand.
Trans ppl and cis ppl are both part of society and pushed to the forefront. Defined less by a simple collection of individuals and more by the complex network of rules, roles, and interactions between us all.
By your logic, no trans person should be allowed to speak for cis persons. Yet, you would see that as socially unacceptable, cause cis persons have been privileged. So trans ppl argue with, for example, cis women about how they should receive womanhood.
I am sorry that you have to face the reality of how society works, but it does not work by saying: "You are not allowed to speak about this" while expecting them to support you without anybody talking their mind.
This never worked in the past, nor will it today.
In that event: What is a supporter to you? Or like, what would the perfect supporter be if you could wish for one?
Uh, that is a hard topic because it already mixes up several issues, alongside my reasoning where I said messages should be placed in a "we" form instead of an "us" form.
That conversation mixes up the following topics:
- gender by identification/identity
- gender by biological sex
- rights to enter the appropriate restrooms
- rights of cis women for safety
- Issues of the feeling of loss of safe spaces for cis women
- trans women claiming to understand more about being a woman than an actual cis woman.
- cis women getting mad about that and reaction emotional and spitefully by emotional and spiteful reaction.
The topic itself is deranged in emotional feelings and personal concerns, accompanied by the casual haters. I am sure I will get a big headache out of this by reading alone.
Why would I? I can't challenge you on the fact that you felt you were born in the wrong body or with the wrong sex and needed to change something. I have no right to doubt your choice or the reason for you to transition. I can only have faith that you did what was best for you, and you are happy with the outcome.
As for other marginalised groups. Yes, I had my fair share of scrambles with POCs, for example, who said racism is a sole white problem and you can't be racist toward white ppl.
I fought them over that argument for a good while, while I never claimed that they did not experience backlash or racism. The same way I never said, and I repeat myself here, that I claim to understand the hardships of trans ppl. I only listen to experiences and, based on that and my logic, build my opinion on the claims.
I simply put my support where I find it is due and necessary. However, if my support is needed to be without question and in full alignment with what someone wants to have supported, I would rather support nothing then betraying my own standards.
Because I will not throw away my own principles for any cause, just to fit in and have someone be happy while I have to disregard myself.
Wow, that is a strong statement. That is like saying: You are either for all we stand for or for nothing, because you are not allowed an opinion of your own on this behalf. If that is your approach and what you are saying, I am wasting my time here.
I will not be instrumentalised for either side. I am not a tool to be used when convenient and discarded when I happen to have my own opinions. If you want something like that, you may want to find a hammer or robot; they don't express basic human needs and emotional bonding.
Best of luck with your protest and activism for the trans community then.
Yeah, I get that the message is supposed to hint at the problems. Yet, that message is not helping, imo. I quote something from my previous answers for that.
Trans ppl are facing harsh times. To say there is a problem is fine and important. To control the dialogue by subtle wording could change the perception in favour of trans ppl, though.
The reason is simple: Humans are simple creatures; their mindset is easily influenced, and if they get the feeling their lives are excluded, they will probably end up on the other line. If we are saying "We are equally important" it sounds inclusive to them, and they are more likely to come to our aid.
Again, I want to say I am not trans; I don't know about the backlash or violence against trans ppl aside from what I can read and find. Still, I think trans ppl deserve the freedom to be who they want to be, so long as the rights of others don't get diminished or affected.
Girl, you want to be accepted and perceived by ppl like me; moderate people who you expect to support you. Because the extremists of the right wing will never be turned, no matter what.
You want to convey a message to ppl like me and hope to gain our trust and rally us. How do you want to accomplish that if you say, "You have no right to say something on this behalf, because you are not like us"?
I could have said: "That's none of your business". So what would have been accomplished? Instead, I have chosen to be fair and square. Because I value dialogue and open mindsets.
If you want support, you need to be able to convey a message to gain access to the masses and make them feel validated too. No Supporter stays if they feel like a tool that can be replaced and isn't valued.
It's really not rocket science; just basic communication skills for crowd engagement. Take that feedback as you will.
