@StrayAlbert I must say, I'm surprised they didn't see this coming from a mile away - I understand the Chinese market can be quite isolated, but you'd need to have lived under a rock to not see how global communities react towards GenAI, the backlashes are practically weekly lol

@StrayAlbert 1. Is acceptable - The linguist knows their own work best (but can be blind to their own mistakes)
2. Is ideal - you get a fresh pair of eyes and someone who can communicate with the team
3. Is OK, but LQA feedback might be used as an excuse to undermine the competition

@PEGiardinetti I agree, but it doesn't have to be this way. Companies (especially those making millions of dollars in profit) shouldn't rely on volunteer labor to get their products localized the right way. This is why paid familiarization tasks should be a standard across the industry.

54% - That's the percentage of translators (out of 235 respondents) who only receive minimal or no reference material whatsoever for the games they're working on.

Remember that figure next time you read a translation that sounds off in context!
