The swastika carved into a car on the Upper East Side is a despicable act of antisemitism. It is a hateful attack of intimidation on our Jewish neighbors and on the values that make our city what it is.
I have full confidence the NYPD, which is investigating this as a hate crime, will do everything to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
To every Jewish New Yorker: your city stands with you. We will confront acts of antisemitism wherever they appear with urgency and without exception.
Menachem Begin shared the story of how his parents and the Jewish community of Brest-Litovsk, Lithuania, were murdered during the Holocaust:"
"Five hundred Jews were led one day toward the Bug River, on whose banks stood Brest-Litovsk, a venerable Jewish city. Among them was my father.
On the way, he began to sing with them the song of faith, Ani Ma'amin: 'I believe with complete faith in the coming of the Messiah.' He also called upon them to sing 'Hatikvah.' Everyone sang.
The Germans drove them into the river and opened fire on them from both banks with machine guns. The Bug River turned red with the blood of the Jews.
Among them was my father, my teacher, my master.
My mother was hidden by a physician friend in the hospital, of which he was the director.
One day, all the patients were taken from their beds and massacred. My mother was among them."
More than 95% of Lithuanian Jews were murdered during the Holocaust.
Listen to @CochavElkayam's powerful testimony at the UN.
For two years, Dr. Cochav Elkayam-Levy and her team documented the sexual crimes committed by Hamas against women and children in Israel on October 7 and in captivity.
The evidence is there. The testimonies have been heard.
Silence is no longer an option. The victims deserve to be heard, believed, and remembered.
