For GPUs, and systems in general, the primary driver is the memory, and that's primarily because the same lines used for consumer RAM and VRAM are also used for the high bandwidth RAM used for data centers.

The markup on the latter is so high, they're not doing much of the former, thus the price impact.

China's DRAM fabs are trying to get into the game, and the US givt is trying to lock them out, so...

I run into a very similar issue. I am full head-down into writing (working on a novel idea) and learning to make synthwave music, on top of being sole provider for a family of 4. Been playing with some genAI on the side of visuals to go with the music, should I ever submit to youtube, bandcamp, spotify, etc. (Not even at that first song point yet) If I split my focus any farther, even more nothing will have gotten done than already has.

No friends who do art, so nothing to draw on there.

I'm also curious to see how people are identifying AI images/videos, other than just by sight.
