There were large influx (migrated from burma ) of kukis in Manipur hills in the later part of the 1980s. As they encroached on Nagas inhabited areas, they were confronted and challenged by Nagas . And, they were forced to retreat by NSCN from naga inhabited areas.

The Kuki insurgency rose rapidly after the ethnic clashes with the Nagas of Manipur in the early 1990s, with the Kukis arming themselves against Naga aggression and to counter NSCN militants.

The current major disagreement between them is the land claimed by the Kukis as their "homeland-Zalengam" in the Manipur hills overlaps with the imagined Naga homeland of " Greater Nagaland or Nagalim."

After the SoO pack was signed in 2008 , the Assam rifles ( responsible for countering insurgency in North East India ) started using kuki militants as mercenaries in countering NSCN and so-called valley based militants. And, the valley based insurgencies were almost controlled and ceased to exist comparatively after 2010.

Today , SoO militants are as strong as NSCN (IM) and pose a serious threat to India's internal security in the aftermath of military Junta's campaign against chin-kuki militants and Bangladesh Army's campaign against Chin-kuki militants.

As long as these SoO militants along with other influx chin-kuki militants terrorized the Meitei Community and involved in ethenic cleansing of Meiteis, there is an important need of the emergence of armed Meiteis defence forces to protect the Meitei community from ethenic cleansing by armed chin-kuki militants or any other forces.And, Sign similar pack with the Indian Govt. as the SoO groups did with the Govt.

Make no mistake, there is a violent conflict between forces which have no attachment to Manipur and want to tear it apart with utmost contempt and vengeance and those who have strong patriotic attachment to Manipur, and like their forefathers and mothers who have nurtured and defended the place for centuries with their bloods, will do anything to defend it at any cost.

Given this, this confrontation is not only unprecedented but also likely to be brutal and protracted. All other developments, such as some fellow making some observations and withdrawing the same after some others reacted to them, are merely incidental to this brutal and core confrontation!
