@damnarbor I think #a2council is probably waiting for this to go through the planning commission process but it’s concerning that it’s not even in the work plan yet. https://t.co/09iTxWWgA2
@a2_peter@damnarbor I know, it’s really dumb. It’s also across from the YMCA and next to train tracks. A tall building would be great. They are too skittish about the backlash.
We might finally see some progress on 415 W. Washington soon. This Wednesday the DDA will be voting on a resolution to grant the city $195k for pre-entitlement work on the site. #A2Council
Also, if we chose to do nothing on the site the city will be responsible for paying around 400k to have the unsafe structures demolished (instead of a developer).
I expect we will now see NIMBYs claiming to oppose this development because it’s not affordable housing. But the only way the project could pencil out with affordable housing would be to make it taller…which is unacceptable to those same folks.
@damnarbor I get the impression the city heavily weighted the concerns of nearby neighbors because it’s directly next to mostly single family homes in a historic district.
@sstrudeau I have been pleasantly surprised that there really hasn’t been a lot of organized opposition to developing the other downtown parking lots so far (Y, Palio, Klines, and 415 Washington).
