@CrisSerr3 Facebook controls the algorithm. It’s disappointing to see that they are not protecting their users, especially younger users, from posts that may be detrimental for their mental health. I think they have to ability to fix these issues, but choose not to.
@Kmartinez0132 I agree with the other comments and think that this won’t last long and it’s odd to sell VR headsets to video chat. I don’t really think it’s necessary and these can be sold online and by other brands. Also, them not addressing the issues they’re aware of is questionable.
@BryJour It’s great to see individuals using their platforms on social media to educate others. Not a lot of people know about racism in medicine and Joel Bervell sharing about these issues is really significant on bringing awareness.
@_rebeccageiger I have personally used this feature before and will say that it’s pretty useful! It is great for finding different types of information people are looking. However, this will prompt people to bring up past tweets that may be questionable, especially celebrities.
A digital identity company called Yoti is using their Al-powered age estimation to predict how old someone is. Is this too invasive for underage users on apps or should this technology be used to avoid underage accounts being made? https://t.co/IUECgoDGex #csulbsmc
@kelseystubbs44@VICENews I don't think younger audiences will use Facebook just because of their name changing to Metaverse. It does not change the platform enough to attract younger generations. Also there are other sites that are more useful or likable to them like Snapchat and Instagram.
@Kmartinez0132 I totally agree with the statement you quoted above. Although I know that social media is reaching younger generations as technology grows, but there is no need for Facebook to target kids as young as 10 to get hooked on their platforms. I think it is unnecessary.
@BryJour This is really unsettling to read because I have seen so many advertisements like these on various social media sites. I never understood why Facebook would have these ads on their site and now it makes sense. Hopefully they are able to ban these kinds of scams more frequently.
@CrisSerr3 I like this article because it shares how social media is a great place for businesses to grow, especially small ones. I found it interesting to see how social marketing plays a role in how the audience will see the product and ultimately help them decide to buy it or not.
Facebook announced that they are changing their name to Meta. Mark Zuckerberg shares his hopes that "the metaverse will reach a billion people, host hundreds of billions of dollars of digital commerce, and support jobs for millions" #csulbsmc https://t.co/l0OercNkJR
@CrisSerr3 I think this is really great because it gives more opportunities for influencers to make money on Instagram. It’s also a good tool for distinguishing whether or not the content is an ad or not.
@Kmartinez0132 I think that it’s really difficult to tell which content may trigger individuals into eating disorders because it may affect one person but not another. How can we distinguish which content is causing this when there are a wide range of influencers?
@BryJour Was really nice reading this with the upcoming project. I really liked reading about how activism is just telling people what to do and rather providing the tools to make better informed decisions.
@kelseystubbs44@verge As Twitter may warn users about negative comments, it probably won't work. This is because users use Twitter to share their opinions and any comments they have. I agree with others where negative comments easily have the most views because it's more "interesting" content.
Instagram is receiving backlash for removing link stickers from their users and this article highlights how this impacts the income of sex workers. https://t.co/rN07yyOiT2 #csulbmsc
@jackierausa It’s really cool but unsettling to see how far technology has gone. With a social media platform as a CGI, it does have some scary characteristics as it claims to be human but “in digital form”.
@BryJour I also really hate advertisements and have noticed such a huge increase in it on social media platforms. However I do agree that it is necessary and it’s interesting to see how tracking systems play a role.
@_rebeccageiger Snapchat is doing a good thing with their platform by regulating the sale of counterfeit pills. With their warnings for the dangers of the pills is also a great way to protect their users. I hope that many other media sites are able to incorporate this.
@Kmartinez0132 It's interesting to see how social media can be used for both good and bad purposes. Seeing this was such a positive experience and it is comforting to know social media can be used to find missing people. It truly shows how widespread and public media is.
With the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp outage, it caused panic for the people of Nigeria as it affected their businesses and they feared they could not communicate with their families. https://t.co/yCqo8kHenI #csulbsmc
