Jean-Pierre Adams went into hospital for a routine knee operation in 1982.

He never woke up.

An anaesthetic error left the former France, PSG and Nice defender in a coma for 39 years.

His wife Bernadette cared for him at home throughout it all, feeding him, washing him and speaking to him every day.

Adams died in 2021, aged 73.
