Today I discussed communism with an anti-communist author. I told him I'm a former Soviet citizen, a former Russian, now living in the United States, having visited Cuba and China. I believe I understand communism—its harms outweigh its benefits, though some merits remain. Yet these merits often come with coercion, even causing mass deaths. The cost is simply too high.
The author told me I was beyond redemption, that communism is nothing but evil.

I want to ask: Do people actually buy trash like your books? When you critique something not based on facts but merely to oppose for the sake of opposing, your work becomes garbage. If you can't persuade me, why should I buy your book? Your writing is nothing but opposition for opposition's sake, not objective evaluation.

Finally, Russia is no longer a communist country. My stance is anti-communist, but I recognize that even a monster like Hitler had aspects worth studying. Learning from an enemy's strengths is not shameful, nor does it undermine my opposition to them.
