@bwaltens@FEFortner@GregAbbott_TX@GovHotWheels_TX In the case of high pop growth and high inflation (growth of required services and cost of providing), local taxing authorities could be forced into austerity measures by default? Is that sensible?
@CigarOrlof@anannoyedtexan That’s a very fair criticism of the 14th, although I’d argue binding states to abide by the Bill of Rights was a very defensible use case (incorporation also spanned late 1890s to 1950s, tbf).
@BrandonHallTX A thorough and careful review of TEKS shouldn’t be ‘high stakes’. Working groups build a well-informed consensus through a rigorous and robust multi step process. Partisan processes are uniquely high stakes, however. 5.5MM Texas kids deserve diligence and data-backed decisions.
@CigarOrlof@anannoyedtexan This was true before ratification of the 14th amendment. Establishment clause then became fully incorporated in 1947 outlawing the possibility of state religions.
@MikeJoh14725926 They are teaching to STAAR to manufacture a version of success. Meanwhile SAT scores continue dropping, and are poor at NES schools. Takeover has been problematic for AP/advanced students and college preparedness/rigor.
@pjakcoker_patty@MaryDunlaphome@AaronKinseyTX TEKS make cuts to geography and world history classes to include more Texas history instead. Nothing wrong about learning about where you’re from but kids also need to have a global perspective.
@JenRobichaux Normal ADA funding ceases beyond 175. ADSY provides half day funding or 3/4 for full day. You don’t get the same funding rate simply by tapping ADSY.
@Bentley4Texas AP/advanced students will lose valuable curriculum time under the expanded reading lists and TEKS. My concern as proposed is advanced work will get compressed, college preparedness suffers. Need to find balance to support high performers, etc.
@AaronKinseyTX Texas’ energy industry requires global leaders and thinkers. Does this curriculum prepare students to take the reins to have TX continue at the energy forefront? Do you have data or evidence that these changes will provide strong outcomes?
