Magnolia State miracle: An educational breakthrough in Mississippi https://t.co/3TQBk3CY00 via @dcexaminer Here is a great article explaining how this change became reality.
1,700 years ago, in May and June of the year 325, the Nicene Creed was composed in part and adopted at the First Council of Nicaea and revised with additions by the First Council of Constantinople in 381. They summarized the orthodox faith of Christians. It is what “The Church” has taught for 1,700 years and is to this day repeated by millions in weekly liturgy.
About 200 “bishops” gathered to create the creed, rejecting popular heresies that mostly denied the eternal existence of Jesus, his work in creation with the Father, and his work on the cross for our salvation. Thus, there is the longer middle section about Jesus.
By 325, the Roman persecutions of Christians had been mostly stopped by an emperor and his wife who were Christ-followers. But many of the Christian leaders who assembled in Nicaea bore the marks of torture by official pagan government. Many had gouged-eyes or hacked-fingers. Refusal to worship idols had its price. The debate was fierce. Passions were high. But they wrote and agreed and published the basic truths of Scripture that have stood for 1,700 years.
I believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
And of all things visible and invisible:
I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
The only Son of God,
Eternally begotten of his Father before all worlds,
God from God, Light from Light,
True God from true God,
begotten, not made,
being of one substance with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
He came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
And became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He shall come again in glory
to judge both the quick and the dead:
and his kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
Who proceeded from the Father and the Son,
Who, with the Father and the Son
is worshipped and glorified,
Who spoke through the Prophets.
And I believe in the one holy catholic and Apostolic Church.
I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins.
And I look for the Resurrection of the dead,
And the life of the world to come. Amen.
We are plunging into the great book of Isaiah. The fifth gospel!
Do you think about yourself as a good person, and one who is called upon to do something good in the face of evil?
What if good men and women were "quiet," did nothing, just wanted to be like, and liked, by the people around them.
We are all afraid. That doesn't mean we are all cowards. It means we are all human, living in a fallen (imperfect) world.
But, if we can't even try to do what is right, well, isn't that cowardice.
Welcome to the world of God's Prophets and their relationship with God's people!
Discussion starts Sunday. Exodus 20. The ten commandments. What's the first one? Why?
Join friends, learn, grow in your Christian family life. Don’t stay home. Don’t let the rocking chair get you! Jesus is a real living person, and you need to be in vibrant touch. 9:30 Sunday mornings at Main Street Church. 5073 LaVista Rd. Tucker, GA 30084. Find us in the Community Room near the green awning that connects to Church Street at the Church’s office.
Please be an active part of a church congregation. Don’t be “un-churched” or “under-churched” people in 2025!
We all need a Pastor and a congregation who, with warts and all, will
1. Introduce us to Jesus, the man they have personally met, the holy Lord they know and worship.
2. Baptize us, welcome us, into the covenant that surrounds us with a Christian family.
3. Educate us, Speak Truth to us. Lead us into complete freedom from all earth’s fallen idols and into a complete surrender of all aspects of life to the Creator of steadfast love and a very good universe.
4. Marry us, our children, our grandchildren as we rejoice, multiply, and fill creation.
5. Bury us, walking us to heaven’s gate for an eternal new life in a kingdom unhindered by sin and error.
We don’t need a Pastor and congregation that leads us:
1. To be stuck in the “synagogue” or “temple,” when Jesus has left the building.
2. To spend our time and resources in misguided loyalty to what used to be.
3. To live in fear, refusing to move with God into the new land God waits to show us.
4. To be blind to the future while focused on memories of the past.
5. To miss the truth, to accept the errors, and do harm to God’s beloved people.
6. To be enthralled with the music and miss the Great Musician.
7. To focus on the importance of our own tasks, caught in a rut, and miss the arriving Messiah, riding on a donkey.
Christmas Concert by Atlanta Metro Chorus, Saturday afternoon, December 14, 4pm. Main Street Church in Tucker, across from the high school.
The 60 singers carry on traditions learned in the days of their high school chorus experiences (some back in the previous millennium.) They sing together most Thursday's over at Briarlake Baptist.
It is fun, it is free (freewill offering,) and it's a great way to visit with some of Tucker's music lovers or just light a spark of thanksgiving for the Word who became flesh, a living Word of really great news.
We in the New Beginnings class at our church here in Tucker, GA express our thanks to God and the American voters for the election of Donald Trump to the Presidency. We look forward to significant changes in the federal budgets and bureaucracy following more Godly patterns in public safety, in world and national security, in public education, in public health, and economic development. Like the persistent widow in Jesus’ parable, (Luke 18) we pledge to pray diligently. We pray for God’s intervention and blessings for all our elected leaders and their appointees, in our national, state and local governments, that justice will prevail, and we may enjoy the peace God desires for his people in his Kingdom. November 17, 2024.
North Georgia United Methodism was the denomination’s 2nd largest & nearly only growing conference w/1100 churches. After hundreds of closures & exits it’ll sink towards 400 by next month. Exit fees & property sales put money in bank for denomination, making decline almost profitable. 🫤
