In 1976, when I was 17, my mother was sent to prison and my father sent my younger brother, three other teenagers and me into the Honduran jungle in search of the legendary Lost City of the Monkey God.

Our guide repeatedly threatened to kill us and leave our bodies in the jungle.

I kept most of that story to myself for nearly 50 years.

I finally wrote it down.
