Oral Wegovy approved in the EU!
$NVO has received European Commission approval for Oral Wegovy, making it the first GLP 1 pill approved in the EU for chronic weight management.
The European Commission also approved Wegovy 7.2 mg in a single dose pen, which demonstrated average weight loss of about 21% in clinical trials. Novo Nordisk plans to launch Oral Wegovy in additional European markets during the second half of 2026.

On 11 July at 7:24 PM, I was assaulted by two men at the Caltex petrol station in Sri Damansara.
I sustained a fractured eye socket and multiple injuries to my body. A police report has been lodged, and the case is currently under investigation.
I’m sharing this to inform those who know me and to remind everyone to stay aware of your surroundings and stay safe.

The Wegovy pill demand story is moving fast. 🚀🚀🚀
UK: waitlists reportedly jumped from 10k to 30k at one provider within a week.
Germany: BILD reports ~12k already waiting at one telehealth provider before EU approval.
Next question: how fast will France, Italy & Spain launch after EU approval?

$NVO $NOVO Novo Nordisk announces that the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) under the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has adopted a positive opinion, recommending marketing authorisation of Wegovy pill (once-daily oral semaglutide 25 mg) to reduce excess body weight and maintain long-term weight reduction.
The positive opinion also includes SELECT data in the label, demonstrating that Wegovy reduces the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).
Wegovy pill is the first oral glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist therapy recommended for approval by CHMP for weight management in the EU.
The recommendation is based on the OASIS trial programme and the SELECT2 trial. In the OASIS 4 trial, oral semaglutide 25 mg taken once daily demonstrated 16.6% mean weight loss when treatment was adhered to in adult participants with obesity or overweight with one or more comorbidities.
The weight loss achieved with Wegovy pill is similar to that of injectable Wegovy 2.4 mg. Furthermore, one in three people experienced 20% or greater weight loss in the OASIS 4 trial.
#PRESS Oral semaglutide for obesity has demonstrated 21.6% weight loss in early responders. Separately, users reported improved physical function.

$LLY's New Obesity Pill Off to Slow Start in Race With $NVO
Foundayo generated 3,707 prescriptions in its second week.
For comparison, oral Wegovy hit 18,410 in its second wk - and 3,071 in just the first four days after launch. 💊💊📈 $VKTX $XBI

Looks like the $nvo pill is trouncing $lly Foundayo. Not surprising when you consider that foundayo has worse side effects and delivers less weight loss. Who would have guessed? Apparently not the market, judging by Lilly’s stock price. Once again, a win for peptides and $VKTX
Weekly Recap: Novo is winning the battle for volume
The latest data for the week ending April 17, 2026, confirms a record breaking environment for the metabolic market. Total starter doses hit a new all-time high of 505´000 TRx.
However, beneath the surface of this general market growth lies an important nuance worth looking at.
Parity trap: 4K vs. 4K
At first glance, the recruitment race looks like a dead heat for the week. Both Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly added 4´000 new starter doses each this week.
But a closer look and the stories actually go in opposite directions:
- Novo: Adding 4,000 new patients resulted in a massive +7.6% surge in total Wegovy volume, reaching 416´338 TRx. This confirms that new patients are purely additive to a highly loyal base.
- Lilly: Despite adding the same 4´000 new patients, Lilly’s total Zepbound volume actually fell by -2.4% to 615´251 TRx. New starts are currently failing to offset declines in their broader portfolio.
Oral moat: 125K and vertical
The Wegovy Pill is a structural phenomenon.
- Volume: The pill hit 124´608 TRx this week, growing +9.9% week over week. Very strong.
- Competition: Lilly’s oral entrant, Foundayo, is in its second week with 3´707 TRx. Not strong but still early (second week Wegovy pill was 20´000).
- Scale: In just 15 weeks, Novo’s oral version has reached 33x the volume of Lilly’s competitor. Novo successfully captured the frictionless entry point of the market before Foundayo arrived.
Death of cannibalization
The most persistent bear case argued that the pill would destroy the pen business. The cannibalisation is even part of Novo´s own guidance range, make of that what you will, I think the range will narrow positively. The data for April 17th completely dismantles the cannibalization angle.
There is no material evidence of cannibalization.
Wegovy injectable volume (excluding oral) grew +6.1% this week.
The form factors are co-existing. The pill is an acquisition tool for a new, needle-phobic demographic, while the pen remains the gold standard for maintenance and high efficacy.
Competitive stalling: Vials
Lilly’s reliance on lower cost vials is showing signs of fatigue. Zepbound vials decreased this week to 237´000 (down from 264´000). While Novo is scaling its high dose 7.2mg Pen, reaching 1´699 TRx this week, Lilly’s volume defensive formats are retreating. We should however remind ourselves that vials are historically quite volatile.
Conclusion
Novo Nordisk has successfully reclaimed the momentum. Wegovy’s share of weekly TRx increased to 40.2% (up from 37.8%). We should be mindful of the fact that the most preferred molecule among GPs is still tirzepatide. Between the visible oral surge and the invisible volume through NovoCare and telehealth, Novo is now in a much better position but still with a valuation that essentially ignores the Obesity franchise.
$NVO $LLY $VKTX
$LLY shares are under pressure as fresh IQVIA data shows the company’s obesity franchise trailing rival $NVO in script velocity.
Injectables: Wegovy (+7% w/w) continues to outpace Zepbound (-2% w/w).
Oral Debut: Lilly’s new Foundayo recorded 3,707 scripts in its first full week representing just 20% of the initial volume seen during the Wegovy pill launch.
While early, the widening gap in prescription growth is fueling near-term bearish sentiment for Lilly in the competitive GLP-1 space.
