My family never owned slaves.
My maternal great grandfather served with the Union Army during the Civil War.
My maternal grandfather and both paternal grandparents arrived in America after the Civil War ended.
The only people I've ever been related to that I know were/are racist are my sister and my first wife--both are Democrats.
I've worked for, with and been in charge of numerous non-white people during my life and I've never treated any of them any differently than I did white people, although I can't say I wasn't treated adversely by people of non-white racial makeup or that people assumed that I'd treat anyone differently because of race.
SO WHY SHOULD I FEEL THAT I OWE ANYONE ANYTHING?
