The ADF has extensive engagement with Indigenous communities in remote & regional Australia. In addition to direct entry into ADF employment, the ADF offers a range of pathway programs for Indigenous seeking a career in the #ADF. #UoNTeach https://t.co/7MiLBQpX4S
Australia is culturally diverse throughout all 6 states & 2 territories. From the Indigenous population to people who have chosen AUS as their home. By sharing our experiences & pride, we can promote a positive attitude regarding diversity and difference within Aus. #UonTeach
The discussion of AUS seasons is a great way to get thinking about the similarities and differences of traditional Indigenous seasons & weather throughout the country. Students who have lived elsewhere can speak about the differences in other locations. https://t.co/SKJLrOksWh
@FPaulson27 Connection to country is such an important component of understanding the Indigenous culture & their belief system. Whilst the Dreamtime is well known, it isn't specific to all nations/tribes. Prioritising the understanding of connection to country promotes better understanding.
@emmamurphy96@NACCHOAustralia This is such an exciting resource that promotes more than an Aboriginal contemporary diet. This resource can be used to promote cultural learning, healthy eating habits & plant-based garden projects. Thanks for sharing! #UoNTeach
@FPaulson27 Highly agree! My mother grew up in foster care & therefore had 2 Indigenous sisters. I was brought up with such a positive attitude towards Indigenous people. I truly believe that it was her enthusiasm and love instilled in my child self that reflects through me. #reflection
The Big Book of Australian History is an educative resource that covers much of Australia's history. The book contains visually vibrant images for reference and is a great basis to begin. #UoNteach#AustralianHistory https://t.co/0Yte37aGCH
20% of the Indigenous ADF recruits are women!
Multiple #Indigenouswomen within this clip note the encouragement, growth & opportunities a job in the #ADF can offer. They speak of the pride it brings themselves and their communities at home. #UoNTeach

Since the time of Federation, Indigenous Australians have served their country within every branch of the #AustralianDefenceForce. The Indigenous population still contribute and play a significant role in the #ADF today. #UoNTeach https://t.co/rA6w6mn4vM
@Emma12686461 This is a great way to incorporate Indigenous language into everyday education. As language changes drastically throughout Aus & is distinctly different amongst nations, if you know the name of the local nation/tribe there are apps that provide language conversions. #UoNTeach
#Indiegnousculture uses various forms of the arts to portray storytelling & cultural rituals. Their system of belief intertwines nature with spiritual ancestry. These practices provide an enjoyable & engaging way to learn about their histories. #UoNteach

#Australia is a nation of many different origins & races, with a country that varies drastically throughout. The native history is rich, and post-settlement 18th-century colonisation has seen the culture develop & change continuously. How do you define an Australian? #UonTeach
#Culturalburning is an excellent topic for discussion with clear relevance to recent Australian events. Introducing traditional cultural burning is a great resource that students can link to their own experiences & understanding of the 2019 Aus bushfire catastrophe. #uonteach
Let’s talk Fire 🔥
Cultural Burning - A term used to describe burning practices developed by Aboriginal people purely to enhance the health of the land, its people and its wildlife. This is the preventive action to not only save people’s homes, but the environment as a whole.
#Alfredswar is a moving tribute to the #IndigenousVetrans that went unrecognised in war. This is a great resource for #primaryschool children as it builds on knowledge of the #anzacs from a different perspective. Although a sensitive topic, this story is depicted beautifully.
Moving is stressful! For #Defencechildren who often also cope with the stress of parent/s being posted away, there is the daunting task of being posted to a new place. #DefenceAus recommend the following 7 steps to make the transition easier. https://t.co/pMsz5JXv9j
#Inquirybasedlearning promotes individual interests & learning aspirations amoungst students. Using “I wonder” provides the opportunity of a more open-ended task where students follow personal interest. I will definitely incorporate this technique w/ in my project #UoNTeach
Inquiry based learning stimulates student interest and expands understandings of specific concepts, making meaning in authentic contexts (Walan & Rundgren, 2015). Formulating questions beginning with “I wonder” is an inspiring start to explore local geography/history. #UoNTeach
Teachers (+ general public) can learn first hand about the #Indigenouscommunity through connecting locally. There are vast amounts of Indigenous nations throughout Aus. You do not need to live rural/semi-rural to benefit from local Indigenous knowledge. #UoNteach#teacherlearning
This is so true! Connecting with the local #Indigenous#culture and #community has so many benefits for teachers and their students. One benefit is the local indigenous community becoming involved in the school and their children’s #learning.
What do you think?
#UONTeach
Northern Territory has a higher percentage of #Indigenousstudents than any other Australian state or territory. With this comes significant cultural and linguistic diversity throughout the Territory and not just in the remote areas. #NTeducation#UoNTeach https://t.co/wiqFub6rUj
