Republicans drew this and others like it to cram as many Black voters into one district as possible to keep the other districts White and therefore a higher % Republican. Lee Atwater, a Republican strategist, pioneered this in the 80s. The GOP did this 🙄

The VRA is not design to elect a “Black candidate”.

It is designed to elect the candidate of choice among Black voters. (This is commonly mistaken in talking about the VRA)

Further reading into Callais and you find the issue for S2 lawsuits - Alito has basically created a test which is impossible to meet in the Deep South. To provide an alternate map that meets a state's partisan gerrymandering goal without considering race isn't possible
