16 July 2025: Gopalganj — A Day Written in Blood

Some days leave scars that history cannot erase.

On 16 July 2025, Gopalganj witnessed a deadly confrontation during the National Citizen Committee’s “March to Gopalganj.” As protests escalated, security forces launched an operation that remains deeply contested. Official reports confirmed several deaths, while political groups and eyewitnesses alleged a much higher toll, widespread injuries, and a subsequent cover-up. These allegations remain disputed.

A curfew silenced the district, but it could not silence the questions.

What happened that day? Who was responsible? And will there ever be a transparent, independent accounting of the events?

The people of Gopalganj deserve truth, justice, and accountability. The memories of 16 July 2025 should not be forgotten.⁩

You cannot choke a population’s voice and expect silence forever. Bangladesh broke the chains of this playbook in 1971. The world must open its eyes to PoJK today.
