Latest criminal court figures are dreadful:

* Crown Court backlog was 67,573 by end of December 2023 (up 8% from 2022).
* 18,045 of those Crown Court cases have been outstanding for a year; 6,523 for two years or more.
* Magistrates’ court backlog up 7% to 370,731.
