Not only did White provide insight into dealing with stardom and building a team, but also gave a look into mental health for athletes and the current landscape of women’s sports.

It is clearly not lost on White how much of an honor it is to coach Caitlyn Clark- “Indianapolis is the epicenter of women’s sports,” she states, very excited about the future of the WNBA and the direction that it is heading due to numerous factors- not just the players.

“Talent is not enough.” White says. We’re not going to sacrifice the locker room to hang a banner- we’re going to use the locker room to get that banner.”

White speaks on the challenge of building a team around a superstar- the key to building around a young star is experienced veterans. The focus is on making sure the players surrounding the big names know their roles.

“Most great players want to be coached,” says White, “because they want to be the greatest that’s ever played.” She likened Clark’s work ethic to Tamika Catchings, who many herald as the WNBA’s greatest ever.

White was a member of the original Indiana Fever team in 2000 as well as an assistant coach on the staff of the 2012 WNBA championship Fever squad.

She cites how exciting it is to coach generational talent, specifically mentioning Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston.
