✍️ Xabi Alonso's use of the pivot will bring out the best in Enzo Fernandez.
I believe he is primed to play Xhaka's role under Alonso. Xhaka was tagged as poor defensively and was moved up the pitch just like Enzo, before Alonso bought and transformed him.
Alonso plays with a very low possession depth, which means there is minimal distance between the defense, midfield, and attack. This is cash-money for midfielders who aren't great out of possession because they will have minimal space to defend and teammates close to them to help.
Plus, Alonso wants the two defensive midfielders in the pivot to be close to each other. This will basically mask Enzo Fernandez's out-of-possession issues.
Like I have said before, if Enzo and his representatives are smart enough, they should be begging Chelsea to stay and play under Alonso. He will take Enzo's game to a much higher level. I'm dying to see that possibility.
