The sexual assault allegation, which Platner denied, has prompted top Senate Democrats and close allies to rescind their endorsements, cut off funding and call for him to drop out.⁠

Sen. Bernie Sanders said on Tuesday that he had spoken with Platner and “in light of these very serious allegations, I have recommended that he step aside.”⁠
