My thoughts on Pixel Vault x Wolf Game 👇
Back in 2021 I helped to seed both of these projects. I was super excited about the prospects of both and wasn’t shy letting the world know this at every opportunity I could.
I think in hindsight both founders regret pushing me out in January 2022. My objective was simple. Keep both collections on the timeline 24/7. That meant some guerilla style marketing that grabbed attention at all cost.
Undoubtedly it worked. Both collections were consistently in the top 10 in terms of trading volume. The communities were ecstatic. Every day was exciting. The vibe was electric. There was always crossover between these two communities.
Both founders have since acknowledged they have made mistakes with how they treated me, by prematurely ending our relationshops.
Of course it’s tough not to hold a grudge but ultimately I care about a positive outcome for two communities that were always like family to me. So I put negstive sentiment towards these founders aside.
With that said, in a sea of most pretend builders, I think both Pixel Vault and Wolf zgame bucked the trend. Both win in product design and execution. Of course this isn’t a “if you build it they will come” market. And adoption has been challenging.
Which takes me back to this latest deal. I always keep in touch with founders, despite what I feel like was being dealt a bad hand. Any perceived mistreatment I have brushed off already. If I remain bitter, everybody loses, and I don’t want that. So I’m always looking at how I can help.
In this case, for the past several months Shep has been getting discouraged. And rightfully so. It’s just seemingly impossible to attract new users to the platform at scale in a cost effective manner. Capital markets are dry.
My solution, or at least what I think ks part of the solution, is consolidation. There’s strength in numbers. There’s efficiences to be achieved when combining resources. I know that the Pixel Vault VCs were early Wolf Game fanstics. The lore is there. Wolf Game is a vibe.
Now we haven’t seen Battleplan, but the teaser is impressive. Despite our differences, I’m usually a good judge of character, and do believe that Gfunk is genuinely building. It’s a thankless job at this point but he isn’t a quitter and like me he cares about the community and a positive outcome.
It was important for me to see Wolf Game get into the right hands. That was my only objective when helping the founder look for an exit. Getting it into just any hands isn’t very difficult.
But that wasn’t the point. The deal has to make sense. Making money on an exit wasn’t the priority. And at the end, I didn’t make a penny off this deal between Wolf Game and Picel Vault. And I’m totally fine with that.
Both these communities are dear to me. All that matters is finding a good home and positive outcome for Wolf Game and I think this has been achieved.
Pixel Vault is taking on the dev team. That’s like an acquihire. It all makes sense.I believe the Wolf Game founder is staying on for a bit to ensure a smooth transition.
I like happy endings. This is a rare one these days in web3. I like this outcome much better than founders giving up. I think lessons can be learned here.
While many founders are at peak frustration, there are alternatives to rage quitting. There’s potential scale and operating efficiencies that can be achieved wirh consolidations.
