SNSF fellow at MIT's Tsai lab - Oxford Uni alum Interested in the earliest stages of Alzheimer's, which imo involve brainstem circuits and the immune system
We are looking for a new PhD student to join our lab of Neuroepigenetics at EPFL! Interested in deciphering the epigenetic mechanisms of memory formation, storage and change?🧠🧬Check out the specifics here: https://t.co/Oe8U6kCX6p
Very happy to be back @MIT_Picower for the 30y anniversary celebration of @DrLiHueiTsai ! So many good memories and friendships, and so much superb science!! 🧠 🔥
Want to flexibly manipulate many cortical regions, but don't know how to build a random access optogenetics system? We present Zapit: an #opensource hardware and user-friendly software system to make this technology more widely available. Our preprint: https://t.co/keOHQVhpUl
Take control of your brainstem! Very cool study shows that you can learn to control your pupil diameter and thereby regulate your brainstem arousal centers (such as LC!). Very relevant for AD as well.....

Did you know that when many many worms come together they do funky things like building towers🗼and forming waves🌊?
📢Our nematode collective behavior group is looking for an evolution postdoc🧬, a quantitative PhD💻, and a superstar technician🌟. See https://t.co/7N5YrnVe9e
The importance of childhood for mental health and even aging is hard to overstate. One of the most fascinating things i’ve learned about during my postdoc so far. https://t.co/QiDbDcum5s
The immune system really is a double edged sword: After heart failure macrophages infiltrate the sympathetic nervous system and retrogradely murder innocent CNS neurons that are just trying to regulate the sleep-wake cycle :/

Very cool analysis of (mostly neurotrophic) viral infection and risk for neurodegenerative disease. Even within 15 years of (very common) viral infections, hazard ratios seem comparable to major genetic risk factors

@GraeffJohannes Good point, also there is the fact that PIs are asked to do way too many things already (and like you say, these require pretty variable skill sets) and we train way more postdocs than there are PI positions.
Great piece in Cell on how we can improve the academic system. It makes a specific case for the scientific director job as a non-PI executive-level position for scientists. I feel this sort of thinking should generally become more prominent in academia.

How does sleep help memory? we developed closed-loop deep brain stimulation during sleep in human prefrontal cortex w/ timing based on hippocampal activity
TLDR: boosting hippocampus-cortex coordination improves memory

📢 My lab is hiring a PhD fellow !!! (4-year project) Join one of our new projects in sleep neurophysiology and molecular biology ! #sleep#PhDposition#PhDjobs#neurojobs
Very cool new work from the Tsai lab characterizing circuits that are vulnerable at the earliest stages in AD! imo targeting & understanding the earliest stages of AD is key for clinical success!
