@um_noooo @brokebackstan It’s literally because it pays better and requires less studying/practice. Delivering babies is considered surgery, which pays way better, and it’s the easiest surgery to get into because it requires less practice and time to get into. I had a male gyno tell me this before.

@shanisokay @1989Suggwell @folklorefairies There’s still plenty of people who make tons of money in different jobs(or maybe they’re just regular people who are using savings), also a lot of Americans go into debt for a lot of things, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone were to go into credit card debt to pay for that

@1989Suggwell @folklorefairies National living wage isn’t higher- the average ($75k) is higher just because of billionaires being accounted for, but the median wage is exactly the same as most Western European countries ($35k). Our living expenses are far higher as well.

@JBrowss @jareaucent Yeah it makes more sense than going to school for 8 years so you can touch a vagina. But it doesn’t make me feel like my doctor cares about my well-being or that childbirth is his passion. It’s just an easy way to make more money as a doctor, which is unsurprising.

@JBrowss @jareaucent It’s because it’s an easy entry point to get into surgery. Surgery pays more and gynecology/child delivery is considered surgery but takes less years to get into. I talked to a male gyno about this at a bar once. It only made me more hesitant to go to a male gyno tbh

I think it should be treated like selling organs- you can donate one to someone in need but there shouldn’t be a legal market for it, it becomes predatory that way.
