🎉 Today grade 2/3 tried their 2nd thinking challenge of the week and this one kept them busy! So many different solutions and such an interesting development of discussion after around strategies used by each group #rvsed@FiresideRVS
⭕️ Last week for international “Dot Day” we read @peterhreynolds book The Dot and painted dotted art pieces. Today, we talked about teamwork, sliced up our work, and reorganized our art into a beautiful, collaborative class piece @FiresideRVS
💧We had such a great day rafting with @riverwatch_ab & learning about our local river ecosystems, touring the water treatment facility, and conducting different tests to assess the quality of our water 💦 @FiresideRVS#rvsed
I asked a group of former cohort members what we, as a university, could have done better to prepare students for the being a teacher.
One student's answer stuck with me.
"I wasn't ready for the loneliness. As a cohort, we were a community. You played a small role but it was us as a leader but, sorry, John, it was us. We were tight. Then you enter the field and you're on your own. I just wish I worked at a place where we ate together and planned together and had a couple of drinks together on Friday night like we did as as a cohort. I miss that so much."
I'm not sure how you define PLC but it's not "a group of people who analyze data together." It's what she was describing. It's a community that talks shop on a Friday afternoon after work.
🌍 🎨 A few more grade 7/8 Art students have completed their Earth week colour matching projects. Students chose where to place a canvas square on a landscape image and mixed acrylics to create the colours in nature @FiresideRVS#rvsed
⭕️🦋 Art 7/8 students are exploring radial symmetry and line work by creating their own mandalas, focusing on repetitive designs in each segment @FiresideRVS#rvsed
🎨 Gr. 7/8 art is exploring colour theory inspired by #EarthWeek! Students took a square off canvas, sketched details, then blended acrylic paint to match the colours of nature 🌍 @FiresideRVS#RVSed
📚 In the spirit of the @FiresideRVS read-a-thon, grade 7/8 fibre arts students used mega clips to make macramé bookmarks! As a self-directed class, lots of exploring resulted in lots of unique designs
🧶 January was a busy month for our grade 7&8 fibre arts students! Students created hand-stitched felt snowman and personalized wooden string art. Today, we explored macramé and made personal, beaded keychains
🎄 So proud of our term 2 fibre arts students! This is only our 2nd class and today we practiced hand stitching by making a holly leaf (or a few!) for a collaborative wreath we will display at the Christmas concert @FiresideRVS#rvsed
❤️ In preparation for Remembrance Day our grade 7 & 8 sewing students have been making themselves hand stitched poppy broaches. This is a great, eco-friendly, reusable alternative! @FiresideRVS#rvsed
