I absolutely love tornado setups in Houdini. In fact, it's one of the first setups I learned all these years ago when I first got my hands on Houdini.
Something about swirly pyro simulations is just inherently cool. Even cooler is using it to drive the growth of an SDF volume.
If you play around with the setup you can come up with all sorts of crazy ideas. Simple things like adding noise on top of the initial velocity can create some fun experiments.
This was one of my favorite FX to create for the latest Motion Graphics in Houdini workshop. Hope you guys enjoy it!
Another use for ExtractSlice + Accumulate from my last post — stylized lightning/trail textures this time.
The setup is a bit tricky, so the video goes through every node and its settings. All made in IlluGen.
