@SlpKatie1962 Im@not sure any learning style was considered with this approach. 😊 I had a similar experience as an undergrad with a 75 minute, twice a week, computer course at 8:00am in the basement of the building. Most of the class was sleeping by the end. This is what not to do. #edl681

@SlpKatie1962 As we discussed in our live session, feedback is a crucial part of the learning experience. Not only is what you say important but how you say it. Being both constructive and supportive recognizing what was good and what can be improved (and how) helps in the learning experience.

@alen_serifovic This is a great example of how NOT to engage learners. We often think about the language we use and the way we engage as the most important aspect. But sometimes, our body language can encourage learners to be part of the learning experience, or it can turn them off. #edl681

@Tlawson29 In both cases it sounds like the professors could have benefitted from training on learning theory and advanced pedagogy/andragogy. Just as important, we need to seek out opportunities to make ourselves better practitioners regardless of our profession. #edl681

@Tlawson29 This example typifies the concept of JiTT (Just in Time Teaching). This is a new form of flipping the classroom model to better understand where the learners are and what they are expecting heading into the class (learning experience) and modifying accordingly. Great observation!

@EmilyEv30163561 Excellent observation, Emily. Often, as professors, we emulate the professors we had. And they emulated the professors they had. And so on. What happens is that every instructor does it the same way and and focuses on the content instead of the learning.

@MariahBlackWat1 Again, this is a great observation you have made, Mariah. Sometimes the best way to communicate with students is not to say a word. Just listen. As the ‘expert’ this may be hard to do, because we fee the need to fill the silence with their brilliance. But listening is important.
