Remembering Kishore Kumar.
Teen Deviyan
Till the late 60's Kishore Kumar used to sing only for himself. He refused to give play back to any other actor. But he made an exception for Dev Anand. Under the music direction of SD Burman Kishore Kumar playbacked only for Dev.
The musical association between Kishore Kumar and Dev Anand is one of the most charming chapters in Hindi film history. Kishore's youthful exuberance, playful mischief and effortless yodelling perfectly complemented Dev Anand's carefree, romantic screen persona.
In this song romantic poetry meets Kishore 's expressive voice

Some songs don't just play, they bounce.
"Deewana Mastana Hua Dil" from Bombai Ka Babu (1960) is one of those. You hear that opening swing and you can already see Dev Anand in that tilted cap, shoulder shimmy and all, with Suchitra Sen trying not to smile.
The team behind it was magic in its prime:
Film: Bombai Ka Babu directed by Raj Khosla, Dev Anand and Suchitra Sen. Interestingly, it was one of Suchitra Sen's very few Hindi films. She was already the queen of Bengali cinema.
Music: S.D. Burman. Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri. Voices: Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhosle.
This was the golden Dev - SD - Majrooh - Rafi combination. Raj Khosla gave Burman Dada complete freedom, and Burman Dada gave us a perfect club-song that wasn't a club-song. It has that Latin, cha-cha bounce he loved in the late 50s, early 60s, think "Piya Tu Ab To Aaja" came much later, but the seed was here. Light guitar, brushed drums, a happy-go-lucky accordion.
Trivia lovers, a few gems:
Majrooh saab wrote "Deewana Mastana Hua Dil, Aaj To Mera Jee Chahe..." with Dev Anand's dialogue delivery in mind. He kept the words deliberately short and percussive, so Dev could lip-sync it in his trademark rapid style.
This was the period when S.D. Burman was experimenting heavily with Asha Bhosle for the modern, mischievous heroine, while keeping Geeta Dutt and Lata for other textures. Asha's teasing "hmm hmm" in this duet is pure Burman Dada direction - he would often ask her to sing as if she was smiling.
Mohammed Rafi, as always, didn't just sing for Dev, he became Dev. That slight nasal joy, that "O o o o" - if you close your eyes, you see Dev Anand's head tilt.
Bombai Ka Babu itself was inspired by Hollywood's The Fugitive vibe. But the songs made it light. The other gem from the same film, "Saathi Na Koi Manzil" is the complete opposite mood, and both were by the same team - that was Burman Dada's range.
62 years later, it still feels fresh on a Sunday morning drive. No heavy orchestration, no auto-tune, just four geniuses having fun in a Bombay studio, and a hero who was forever young.
What if a melody could awaken a memory your soul never forgot?
Some songs don't just touch your heart, they take you somewhere beyond time, where love feels eternal, strangers feel familiar, and silence speaks the language of the soul.
This Sunday, let the melody tell the story.
⚜️Some Souls Meet Beyond Time
Only to Become Strangers Again…
What if the deepest love of your life isn’t the person you are destined to keep, but the soul who awakens something immortal within you?
When they met, it felt less like falling in love and more like remembering someone their souls had known before time began.
With him, she did not feel discovered. She felt remembered.
Their connection defied explanation. A belonging without ownership. A silence more intimate than words. Two strangers who somehow felt like home to each other.
But life doesn’t always surrender to the heart.
Circumstances intervened. Responsibilities outweighed desire. Fear disguised itself as reason. And the world demanded choices that love alone could not resolve.
So they parted!
Not because they had stopped feeling, but because sometimes two people can love deeply and still be unable to build a life together.
Years passed.
She learned that longing could coexist with happiness. He learned that losing someone didn’t mean losing the part of himself their love had awakened.
Both grew. Both changed. Both discovered that healing wasn’t forgetting; it was learning to remember without bleeding.
Then, one day, they met again.
Their eyes locked, and for a fleeting moment, time dissolved. A thousand questions stood between them, a thousand words left unsaid.
But neither asked.
Instead, they smiled with the quiet tenderness of people who finally understood what their younger selves could not.
Chalo ek baar phir se ajnabi ban jaayein hum dono…
Come, let us become strangers once again.
But how do you become a stranger to someone who once felt like your universe?
Perhaps you don’t!
Perhaps you simply stop demanding that the past return to give your present meaning.
We often mistake the intensity of longing for proof that someone belongs in our future. But a powerful connection is not always a permanent destination. Sometimes, a person awakens the very parts of us we must learn to carry on our own.
And that is where love becomes transcendence.
Can you cherish someone without possessing them? Remember without imprisoning yourself? Wish them happiness even when it no longer includes you?
That isn’t the absence of love.
That’s love freed from the ego’s demand to own what it adores.
Perhaps certain souls enter our lives not to stay, but to awaken us…to break our illusions, expose our vulnerabilities, and reveal a capacity for tenderness we never knew existed.
Whether destiny brought them together or life simply crossed their paths, what they shared changed them forever.
She walked away without looking back, not because she felt nothing, but because she had stopped abandoning herself to keep a memory alive.
He watched her go, understanding that love doesn’t become meaningless simply because it can’t last.
Some endings don’t destroy love.
They destroy the illusion that love must possess in order to be real.
Perhaps the immortal part of love isn’t that two people remain together until eternity.
Perhaps it is what remains within them: the wisdom, courage, awakening, and tenderness that survive even after the relationship becomes a memory.
You can release someone without denying what they meant to you.
You can honour a connection without sacrificing your future to its absence.
You can lose someone who once felt like your universe without losing your own.
And perhaps, in the deepest sense, becoming strangers again means this:
I release you without erasing you.
I bless what we were without demanding what we could have been.
I choose to live, not merely to remember.
Because the greatest love story isn’t always the one in which two souls stay together….🤍

Interesting fact:
Singin’ in the Rain (1952) features Jean Hagen as Lina Lamont, a silent-film star whose hilariously squeaky voice becomes a major problem when Hollywood makes the transition to talking pictures.
In one of the film’s funniest sequences, Lina attempts to perform while Kathy Selden secretly provides the real singing voice from behind the curtain. Hagen’s performance was especially impressive because her shrill, grating voice as Lina was completely deliberate—she actually had a much more natural speaking voice in real life.
Her comedic portrayal was so convincing that Hagen earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
How much effort they put into a movie but you never get to see the behind the scenes just like a father whose hard work is unseen.
The whole crew and actors, no matter how much they earn, it's their right
