I’d say it’s more about a lack of education (not academically but about the job market) and awareness than a personal choice. How is it a personal choice if the person isn’t presented with the right information?

Well I think a lot of current and passed propositions on Californias ballet are wrong in their approach such as wealth taxes losing money for the state in practice and not thought through rent control props but this is due to government structure which is something that can be changed. For example if more young people got involved in the bays local governments we could actually make a difference to many policies intended to keep housing prices high. I think focusing on tech workings complaining about 180k salaries is completely tone deaf but it does speak to issues with COL in the bay.

Assuming the company you’re working for plans on going public which you assume to be a success, is public, or is raising to a higher valuation which someone is willing to purchase your stocks. Many people working in the bay are on paper money salaries with very limited liquidity events.

Mf where r u finding a nice apartment in Palo Alto for 2k in rent 😭😭Even with roommates you’re not finding something “nice” for luxury prices anywhere else in the world. I’m not saying it’s unlivable, it’s just other people have life circumstances where otherwise a salary like this which is amazing doesn’t go far in the bay.

I agree that swes are entitled and deluded but not everyone has your life circumstances (supporting family, school loans, different stages in life even if they are a L1/L2). Like I think the Bay Area isn’t “comfortably”
livable even with a big tech job and that speaks to a some sort of crisis.
