Really enjoyed this #ICML2026 tutorial by @MarkSchmidtUBC connecting optimization theory to what actually happens in practice.

The elephant in the room: is optimization theory even useful for practitioners anymore? I think practice will keep driving progress, but we still need theory to catch up and help us explain why.
