https://t.co/rnRAA682nY Iskra Books: What are we to make of Nietzsche’s versatility? Championed by anarchists, Nazis, post-modernists, liberals and leftists alike, his uses appear to be endless—but what does the constant reappearance and recuperation mean in political terms? Can his thought really serve all the diverse and contradictory ends of his many admirers?
In The Poverty of Left Nietzscheanism Aymeric Monville takes up this question with characteristic wit and perceptiveness. Focussing on the question of Nietzsche’s purported “Left” cheerleaders in France—Camus, Bataille, Deleuze, Foucault, Derrida among others—Monville argues that the “eternal return” of Nietzsche is a symptom and cause of the pernicious irrationalism, individualism, and anti-communist consensus that, in his view, now runs from the Western Left to the far right.
Monville asserts Nietzsche—and those that take up his mantle—have only ever served as a weapon with which to undermine the materialist tradition, and ultimately, the entire tradition of thought descending from Marxism and the workers’ movements.

From the introduction by Gabriel Rockhill: “Monville… provides the reader not only with a deep understanding of the Nietzschean legacy and elements for a counter-history of French theory, but it also develops an insightful indictment of the dominant capitalist ideologies while clearly articulating the political path forward.”
Praise for this edition: “Monville's book looks at a phenomenon that, if it had not been so strikingly successful as to seem banal, deserves the most critical assessment. It asks questions which deserve the most serious consideration. How could Nietzsche, a fierce enemy to democratic egalitarianism whose later works do not stop short of calls to Vernichtung of the ‘botched and bungled?’, become the hero of ‘French theory’, presumed to be of the most impeccable Leftist credentials? This is a book which is long overdue in the Anglophone literature.”
—Prof Matthew Sharpe, National Head of Philosophy, Australian Catholic University.
Responses to the French original (Éditions delga): "This polemical little book, often excessive, has the merit of asking how an antirationalist thinker—an apologist for domination and violence, for the crushing of the weak, for aristocracy, an antifeminist and even an antisemite—could become one of the major touchstones for the French left-wing intelligentsia."

The most sinister and consequential 'information attack' campaign of recent times was the 'antisemitism crisis' smearing war against Corbyn and the left, conducted by the Labour right, the Israel lobby, and the UK political/media estate, in concert.

Do read and share this letter - it should be enough by itself to damn Abdi-Wali's chances of winning in this constituency. Her record as a Councillor shows us what she would be like as our MP : "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."
This is an outrage.
I will do everything in my power to prevent Morgan McSweeney from being elevated to the House of Lords.
I believe there is simply no way he can be considered a fit and proper person, having broken the law for years, and I will place all the evidence at my disposal (including the very substantial new disclosures made to me by Labour Together and other parties) before the House of Lords Appointment Commission.
It is now incontrovertible that McSweeney was aware of his legal duties to report donations as required by law to the Electoral Commission while company secretary of Labour Together - but that he failed to do so for two years. I believe that there is compelling evidence that McSweeney chose not to report donations in violation of the law, and that he used these undisclosed donations to procure political power for himself, his allies, fellow directors of Labour Together and Sir Keir Starmer.
I have now received disclosures showing incontrovertibly that McSweeney was consulted on and received a copy of the despicable, defamatory APCO Worldwide report that targeted me, my family my colleagues and other journalists because I was revealing McSweeney's history of unlawful conduct and how his unlawful conduct benefited Sir Keir Starmer.
I have also received, in the last weeks, confirmation that APCO's disgraceful report on me and others was sent to the Cabinet Office. The Cabinet Office, in plain violation of my rights under data protection laws, is now refusing to reveal precisely how it was transmitted, to who, when and for what reason. This is a patent cover-up by the Cabinet Office.
It is utterly inappropriate that the man who helped make Mandelson the ambassador to the US, after engaging in years of dishonesty and unlawful conduct on his own account, should be given a lifetime sinecure deciding our laws.
Although it will challenge constitutional convention, Burnham should refuse McSweeney's appointment. At the very least he must refer it to the Appointment Commission.
Could there be a more fitting, disgraceful denouement to Starmerism?
And will Burnham have the backbone to do the decent thing?
Or will he allow his administration to be tainted by the sins of his predecessor?

More millionnaires leaving. How worried should we be? Those running British productive or retail businesses might emigrate but can't take their businesses with them. The financiers and rentiers are unproductive. Those who understand the function of taxes and the tax take beyond income tax know that taxes don't directly fund public spending and millionnaires contribute about 8-11% of the total tax take. Under 1% are leaving annually. Moving to the Med to guzzle themselves into an early grave is their choice.
Just a quick note for those on the left who reacted badly to our critique of identity politics. @winlow_s
1. We're not dismissing civil rights struggles that still haven't been won.
2. We're criticising the cooptation and subsequent domestication of these struggles by neoliberal institutions.
3. Adoption of DEI policies helps arms companies to promote themselves as occupants of the same ethical lansdscape as hospitals or universities.
4. This cooptation helps neoliberals to convince an electoral majority that their inherently and inexorably unjust system based on private debt, shareholder value and rule-bound competitive individualism - what we call 'pseudo-pacification' - can become progressively more just. This is impossible.
5. Because the liberalised left abandoned hope of intersectional solidarity and replacing or even regulating the economic core of neoliberal system, it failed miserably to offer any tangible solutions to the destructive social aftermath of the 2008 crisis.
6. The liberalised left's continued faith in and professionalisation of this failed variant of identity politics has inflicted untold damage on its reputation, losing the support of the multiethnic population and leaving it vulnerable to attack from a resurgent right.

You say : "I strongly condemn the reprehensible violence perpetrated against Palestinians by a small number of extremists" - you seem to be forgetting the ongoing genocide being carried out by the entire armed forces of Israel.
Belfast actor Gerard McCarthy pulled out of his Soho Theatre show due to his co-star's views on the Palestine conflict.
He is leaving the production of 'Right Before I Go' following the addition of actress Maureen Lipman.
Kudos Gerard!!
Cohen's ethnic "satire" shtick is going to be received much differently now that the world knows he is white supremacist to his core. He is basically a nazified, genocidal monster making fun of various untermenschen. No laugh track can cover this up anymore.

@hoddydod70@philwhite1812 Who murdered 14,000 Russian speakers, deposed an elected president and stirred up dissent into a fake 'revolution'? Who has a history of doing this all over the world since 1953? Wake up.
