I just read something, and my thoughts went down a rabbit hole of an old relationship that didn't end well. Do very organized people find it hard to find partners because they keep seeking perfection?

This person I once dated, who loved perfection and was very organized, is still single after over two decades. The person I married is even more organized and, in the last week, has rearranged my kids' bedrooms and the entire kitchen and pantry because the housekeeper took a week off.

I learned something from the previous relationship that I took with me and helped me get the best person: you have to keep trying and improving. What dooms a relationship with a perfectionist is not the lack of perfection; it is the lack of trying to be better.

Perfectionists are not perfect people; that is the craziest part. They are people who want to keep improving the current version of themselves, and they find peace in the process, not necessarily in the destination. I found that part also about myself and my work.

I also found that someone can love you because you are crazy and passionate about something, even though they are crazy and passionate about something else. At the end of the day, it is not about surface-level compatibility but about deeper compatibility in having a sense of purpose. This is why I have always said that dating apps are fraudulent.

Someone responded to an article she loved and asked people who liked it to send her applications via email. It is humorous and simple, but if you try to understand who she is, you will see that she is very organized.

Chaotic people frequently win over organized people when the chaos follows a pattern. My wife saw the pattern in my chaos, and we fell in love. Yes, very organized people can fall in love with people who organize their chaos.

Chaos can be the ladder into a deeper kind of love. My cofounder used to tell me that he saw that his girlfriend had walls around her to protect herself, but he didn't want to destroy those walls, as they would protect both of them later when he was inside her circle. They have been happily married for almost 3 decades. The wall of perfection is stronger each day.
