I'm happy to announce that I am joining the USDA Biological Control of Insects Research Laboratory and the U. of Missouri.
I will open my lab in early July and will continue studying the connections between insect stress, immunity, and microbes for use in biological control.
I am pleased to announce that Dr. @RedelBethany and I are hiring a postdoc to work on insect gene editing and cell lines with the USDA ARS at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.
Further details will be released soon, but feel free to contact us if you are interested!
The spotted wing drosophila is a problematic pest with an ovipositor (egg laying organ) that looks like a stinger with serrations. This pest can saw into fresh fruits and lay eggs. Eventually their larvae associated microbes start to rot the fruit (ex: grape sour rot) and the bugs will emerge, costing millions in losses for U.S. farmers. ARS Research Molecular Biologist David Kang in Columbia, MO, is working with fellow researchers to fight this pest by reducing the prevalence of grape sour rot to protect our fruits. #NPMM

We are happy to annouce that we have deposited at @VDRC (ViennaDrosophila Resource Center) a list of isogenized @Drosophila immunity mutants affecting all major immune modules and effectors. We hope these strains will be useful to the community.
