The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest. Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people. This critical and necessary dialogue is then dishonestly framed as being anti-Israel. To be clear, my views come from my own political convictions and should never be interpreted as hostility toward Jewish people, for whom I have deep love and respect.  Everything I know about acting, activism, and humanism has been profoundly shaped by the Jewish friends, colleagues, and loved ones who have been integral and family throughout every point of my life.

This merger has real consequences for real people, and for the entire country. Scrutinizing the Ellisons, including Oracle’s business built on data, surveillance technology and government contracts, and the serious threat to editorial freedom and the loss of a livelihood for thousands of families, is fair and necessary. The $111 billion deal would hand one family control over CNN, HBO and Warner Bros., backed in part by foreign money whose influence on editorial decisions has never been fully explained to the public. 

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for serious national security review, and regulators still haven’t given the public a real answer. Until they do, the merger shouldn’t move forward. Now is the time to dive boldly into all these issues, not step back or concede.

Es imposible no sentir impotencia y frustración. ¿Tan radical les parece la sencilla idea de avanzar hacia un país que trate de igual forma a sus ciudadanos, independiente de donde viven? ¿Les parece aceptable que hoy en una misma ciudad haya municipios que tienen 10 veces más recursos que otros, con todas las consecuencias que eso tiene? ¿Entienden que eso antes se generaba por la capacidad de recaudación propia de cada comuna, pero desde hoy se sostendrá en impuestos generales pagados por todos? ¿Creen justo que con la enorme cantidad de necesidades que el país arrastra, y la escasez de recursos públicos que existe, estos dineros vayan a las 3 comunas de mayores ingresos, y no a cubrir esas necesidades básicas que llevamos años esperando? ¿Cómo justifican traspasarle 2 millones a Cerro Navia y 13.000 millones a Las Condes?
Por cierto que hay que avanzar hacia una gestión pública más eficiente, transparente y que rinda cuentas. Seremos los primeros en empujar esa agenda. Pero no la usemos como excusa para no abordar la tremenda desigualdad que tenemos.
Ayer la centroderecha por defender sus intereses, traicionó sus principios. Y esa es la peor derrota.
No habrá descalificativos ni campañas de desinformación que nos hagan renunciar a nuestros principios ni a la defensa de los vecinos que representamos. Algunos nos quieren callados porque ya se nos ayuda “lo suficiente”. Nosotros seguiremos trabajando hasta que nuestros vecinos reciban lo justo.

This is Sheikh Farouk Ramadan.

Yesterday afternoon, he and his family were attacked by settler-terrorists on their own land. Farouk managed to disarm one of the attackers. He took the settler's rifle and shot and killed two terrorists in a clear act of self-defence.

In response, Israeli soldiers murdered him and three of his family members. Israeli government and media portrays him as the terrorist, and the actual terrorists as the victims.

Don't let them push this narrative. Farouk had the full legal and moral right to resist against the genocidal terrorists who invaded his land.
