World Food Day on 16 October https://t.co/nT9CT9ca7r highlights the inextricable link between water and food. Did you know that one third of food production is reliant on rivers https://t.co/BIZxtug39G. See my post on Linked In: https://t.co/q0qFPBJ3AL
1. There have been plenty of debates about whether or not Trump and his circle are fascists. In this column, I argue that the debate solves nothing. We’re seeing a reversion to the default state of politics in centralised societies: autocratic tyranny. https://t.co/Lhov0g3wxs 🧵
Di and Alyson took action at Charles Darwin's grave today.
Di, 77, said:
"Last year was the hottest since modern humans evolved. If we do not work together to reign in the corporations and billionaires driving us beyond our means, humanity will not be able to adapt to what is coming. We are on course to lose everything, and politicians are doing nowhere near enough to prevent it. How many will we have to bury as a result of climate breakdown and who will be left to mourn them?”

🔥 This action follows the news on Friday that the world has smashed through the "safe" 1.5 degrees of warming limit agreed by world leaders.

They lock up the heroes and reward the villains. As the climate emergency bites, everything is wrong with our response.

The richest 1% are responsible for the same quantity of planet-wrecking greenhouse gases as two-thirds of humanity.
These are not natural facts. They are the result of humanity’s choices.
We can, and must, decide to do things differently.
@HMRCcustomers I posted my tax return (1st class) on 3 Jul 2024 and when I log on to Self Assessment and click check progress there is no confirmation of receipt??
Not one word about @TheGreenParty and its unprecedented, dramatic results. The BBC can't get enough of Farage, but simply blanks the most progressive force in UK politics.
.@UNDP welcomes @IMFNews's decision to allow re-channeling of SDRs to multilateral dev banks.
This innovative step supports @UN’s #SDGStimulus & expanding finance for #SustDev for dev countries.

States must ensure everyone’s access to a sufficient amount of safe drinking water for personal and domestic use. See my Linked In post https://t.co/58FGDE7Jrb for Human Rights Day.
6 months of fighting in Sudan.
6 million people forced to flee.
That’s an average of 1 million people per month.

"The sea starts here".
Very apt wording on this French drain. Easy to forget that even in the middle of an inland city stuff going down a drain can pollute our coasts.
Too much or too little water affects food production, energy systems, health and more. The data and analysis that informs Early Warnings can help reduce the impact of water-related disasters. Check out this story https://t.co/gMfOgAqEeI by @UNEP.

Since announcing the #HudsonSwim2023, many people have asked me, “why rivers”? These are my reasons 🏊♂️👇🧵
1. The science says 30% of land and oceans need to be protected by 2030 – and we cannot do that without protecting rivers, the crucial lifeline that connects the two. Rivers are our Earth’s arteries after all.
2. Everyone lives in a river basin – rivers are accessible to most people, and they are more achievable to clean than the great big ocean.
3. We all want to breathe in clean air and drink fresh water. These are the two most basic things to ensure our planet is habitable.
