ProPublica's @eisingerj to his staff: "We face the biggest test of our professional lives. Now we get to see if we really meant it when we said we will hold power to account. Will we do so when our subjects have true power on their side and a willingness to use it? We may be harassed. We may be sued. We may be threatened with violence. We may be ignored. Are we just sunshine journalists or are we ready?" https://t.co/1ZKacavcNK
Tonight, in honor of Election Day, we will be shining in red, white, and blue.
When the @AP calls one of the 7 swing states we will shine blue for 5 minutes if @KamalaHarris is declared the winner, or we will shine red for 5 minutes if @realdonaldtrump is the declared winner.
When one of the candidates reaches 270 electoral votes, we will shine in their color of the rest of the evening

Am really interested in the precincts surrounding the Philly colleges. Biden’s 470k margin out of Philly in 2020 (which was 4k less than Clinton) came at a time when Temple, Penn, Drexel, and La Salle were among the schools doing classes online as a result of Covid.
Just in: 110-year old Viola Ford Fletcher, the oldest survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre voted today in Oklahoma. I’m told she voted for Vice President Harris.
Pediatricians say they’re worried about the potential for deadly disease outbreaks after Donald Trump said that if he wins, he’ll “make a decision” about whether to outlaw some vaccines. https://t.co/2MRlvFPGsk
And the analysis is in fact deeply informed by conversation with parent orgs - learning what is happening in their communities. So grateful for @FLFreedomRead and so many others
In the weeks leading up to the most consequential election of my lifetime, there’s been a great deal of focus on Black men. But the group we should have been focusing on is white women — the nation’s largest electorate. White women are the only American women where the majority did not vote for Hillary Clinton. Had white women voted like the rest of women, women would still have their constitutional right to abortion and affirmative action would still be legal. Two of Trump’s own former generals have warned that he’s a fascist. Black women were credited with saving democracy in 2020, will white women step up and do the same in 2024? My latest essay revisits the fraught history of white women’s solidarity.
Brave teacher admits "While compiling reading materials for my class, I was hesitant to list all my classroom’s books on our school website. I considered simply removing some books just to avoid conflict." But ❤️, her concern for students stopped her.

I’m so disappointed and frustrated that we are seeing our news in NJ crumbling before our eyes. The closure/reductions of multiple papers and the layoffs of seasoned journalists and editorial staff will damage transparency and accountability in our state and make it harder for New Jerseyans to be better informed. We must be active in our support of journalism as we need the truth told, questions asked, and stories shared as much as ever.
