Labour Day parades across Ontario saw many Palestinian flags and keffiyehs along the route. Workers of conscience made it clear that they stand with our brothers and sisters throughout the occupied Palestinian territory in opposing Israel's campaigns of apartheid and genocide.
Today is a moment to reflect and recommit ourselves to action in solidarity with the Palestinian labour movement. This is especially crucial at moments like these, when the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions and the Palestinian Postal Service Workers Union are issuing emergency calls for support as their members are fighting for their lives.
It is incumbent upon us to pass solidarity resolutions within our unions, support hot cargo campaigns where workers refuse to handle Israeli goods, and demand that pension funds divest from entities which support Israel's illegal occupation. Union members must also push leadership to dismantle any other institutional ties that support Israel.
The Canadian labour movement is making important strides in the right direction, but much more remains to be done and time is of the essence. For information on how to get involved in campaigns happening in your community, please visit: https://t.co/KKjlj7XEQ3

🧵U OF T IS HOSTING A ZIONIST CONFERENCE: PRESIDENT MELANIE WOODIN IS GIVING THE OPENING REMARKS.
On September 15th, @UofT is hosting known anti-Palestinian racist and genocide deniers.
I was talking about Raymond Carver and some folks didn't know he had written poems as well as his stories. While certainly not as popular as his stories, his poetry is good; straight forward, clear, realistic, and thoughtful.
This is my favorite of his:
Music Hall of Shame:
1. Singer Zarah Leander, supported the German Nazi regime as it committed aggression and genocide.
2. Musicians Ted Nugent and Steve Hofmeyr, defended the South African apartheid regime and its racist policies.
3. And the lifetime achievement award goes to singer P!NK, who openly supports the Israeli Zionist regime as it commits apartheid, serial aggression, and genocide and she even attacks those who dare to speak out against the regime’s crimes. #Shame
Es muy necesario retroceder. Dar varios miles de pasos hacia atrás. Recuperar la lentitud. Escribir a mano. Masticar despacio. Ser improductivo. Es una decisión individual, pero suficientes decisiones individuales pueden lograr un movimiento colectivo.
"I FOUND MY PEOPLE, AND I'M OKAY"
Susan Sarandon, at the Venice Film Festival, on what happens when you speak about Palestine from inside the industry:
"Agencies are still telling people not to hire me. There are positions held by Zionists who have not relaxed their stance towards me."
"I've had movies taken away. That's the power structure."
She's not asking for permission anymore. She knows the cost, and she's still standing.
One of the most decorated actresses of her generation, blacklisted in plain sight for saying what the world can now see. And yet she says it with a kind of peace:
"I found my family. I found my people. And I'm okay."
The industry didn't break her. It just confirmed what she already knew. 🧭
it's too late. this company is obviously ideologically zionist. we gave them grace they didn't deserve after they dropped @BellaHadid last year. Bella's offense was being Palestinians. full stop. Then they decided to feature an Israeli soldier who lost his leg while participating in an ongoing genocide that has shocked the world's conscience, while tens of thousands of child amputees (whose small bodies have been mangled by the likes of the soldier they chose to feature) still languish in Gaza without care.
@Adidas is fooling no one with this fake, meaningless apology. The world has better options for athletic ware than to bother with these genocide enthusiasts.
#BoycottAdidas until their financial legs are cut off at the knees.
Macklemore opened for Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium wearing a keffiyeh, performed "Hind's Hall" with Gaza footage on the screens, and told 80,000 people he wanted those in Gaza and the West Bank to know "they have not been forgotten."
He said every human being deserves "the exact same freedom, to know safety and peace before knowing the sounds of violence."
He called ICE a "terrorist organization" and shouted "Free Palestine, free Cuba, Congo, Sudan and Iran."
The Israeli-American Council petitioned to drop him from remaining tour dates.
It seems that memory no longer remembers this horrific scene, one of the most brutal scenes in history.
People woke up one morning to the sound of loudspeakers ordering them to gather naked in a pit dug by Israeli bulldozers. Some civilians were then executed by gunfire, while others were taken to detention centers. Everyone stood watching in horror, while those who survived had to flee under a hail of bullets.
Dozens of elderly men were killed simply because they didn’t have the speed or strength to escape the soldiers’ gunfire.
We will never forget. We will never forgive.
A good time to remind you that more than half of the people who lived there were children. There was no standing army. There was no air defense. They basically obliterated their own penal colony over a prison riot. 99% of Gaza was innocent entirely and all were treated like Hamas
Today I was reminded of a ritual now missing from our lives: The "visit". Boomers & gen X grew up with "going visiting". Our parents would load us in the car and we'd go visit with friends and family.
The etiquette of visiting was: one cup of coffee w/ a sweet treat, then 1/2
BREAKING:
The UN accuses Israel of committing acts of genocide in Gaza.
UN Human Rights Council:
"Israel is responsible for genocide,
killings, and using starvation as a method of warfare.
