Some videos are circulating on social media claiming I have been arrested. Firstly, I want to ask: What did I do? What did I do? PRESIDENT TINUBU: The Fallen Soldiers in Benisheikh Are Our Unforgettable Heroes—Urges Nigerians and media  to Stand with the Military

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the loss of the brave soldiers of the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, who died in a coordinated terrorist attack on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The President also expressed heartfelt condolences to the military and the families of the soldiers, urging them to take heart in the face of the unfortunate loss.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed the attack and the tragic loss of lives, which occurred early Thursday, April 9, 2026. 

President Tinubu praised the courage and heroism of the soldiers who fought valiantly to repel the terrorists and ensure that Boko Haram could not overrun the communities the soldiers protect.

While mourning the death of the gallant soldiers, President Tinubu urged the leadership of the Armed Forces and all soldiers on the frontline not to be discouraged, but to draw strength from the nation’s deep appreciation for their sacrifices.

“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained, intense land and air offensives against the insurgents, neutralising many of their fighters and commanders. The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation.

“I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of our country today in Borno State. The government will never forget their sacrifices. Their sacrifices will not be in vain. Because of the courage and dedication of our troops on the frontline, our resolve to defeat terrorism and all forms of violence across Nigeria is stronger than ever.

“I urge the Military High Command and our troops in all theatres of operation: Do not lose heart, do not be weary, do not be discouraged. Our officers and men should continue to serve with honour, courage, and patriotism. The government will always stand by the Armed Forces, provide more of the equipment needed and ensure the welfare of all who risk their lives for our safety.

OPERATION HADIN KAI DEBUNKS FALSE CLAIMS ON BENISHEIKH INCIDENT, REAFFIRMS PROFESSIONALISM AND OPERATIONAL SUPERIORITY

The Headquarters Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has noted with serious concern the circulation of false, misleading and highly exaggerated reports across some television stations and social media platforms following the recent foiled terrorist attack on troops’ location in Benisheikh. These narratives, often amplified with unrelated pictures and videos, are not only inaccurate but constitute a deliberate attempt to distort facts, undermine ongoing military operations and erode public confidence.

OPHK categorically refutes the claim that 17 soldiers, including a Brigade Commander, lost their lives during the incident. The official and verified report, as earlier released through Defence Headquarters, clearly stated that 2 officers and 2 soldiers paid the supreme price in the course of the engagement. Any contrary figure being circulated is entirely false, misleading, and devoid of credibility.

The insinuation that the Brigade Commander’s vehicle was unserviceable is equally incorrect. The Commander was mounted on a high-grade Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, which was temporarily immobilised in the heat of combat while he was actively coordinating the counter-assault. This reflects the intensity of the engagement and the presence of leadership at the decisive point, not any equipment failure. Furthermore, the pictures and videos being circulated in connection with the incident are unrelated to the Benisheikh attack and are being deliberately misrepresented to reinforce false narratives. The public is urged to disregard such content, which is clearly intended to misinform and create unnecessary panic.

The Nigerian military strongly frowns at the distortion of operational facts and the use of such unfortunate incident for personal/political gains or propaganda. Such actions not only mislead the public but also diminish the sacrifices, courage, and professionalism of officers and men who continue to risk their lives daily in the defence of the nation. The Armed Forces of Nigeria remains professional and committed solely to their constitutional mandate.

It is pertinent to reiterate that troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled the attack, maintained control of their location, and forced the terrorists into a disorganised retreat. The failed assault underscores the sustained pressure on terrorist elements and the growing combat effectiveness of troops across the Theatre. The military remains the only credible source of verified information on its operations and will continue to provide timely and accurate updates through official channels. Members of the public are therefore advised to rely on such sources and refrain from spreading unverified information.

Let us be precise about what we are looking at.

Oluwaseyi Tinubu holds no government office.
He has won no election.
He has received no mandate from the Nigerian people.
He is the President’s son.
And yet leaked documents — verified by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and reported by OCCRP, Premium Times, and BusinessDay — reveal that Seyi Tinubu was a majority shareholder in an offshore company registered in the British Virgin Islands alongside Ronald Chagoury Jr., son of billionaire tycoon Ronald Chagoury. 
The BVI. The jurisdiction of choice when you do not want the public to know what you own.

Now ask yourself who Ronald Chagoury Jr.’s father is.
Gilbert Chagoury — the Lebanese-Nigerian billionaire whose group received Nigeria’s largest infrastructure contract in history, a $13 billion coastal highway awarded without a public bidding process. 
The same Gilbert Chagoury who was denied a U.S. visa in 2015 on grounds related to funding terrorism, after a 2013 FBI intelligence report linked him to the financing of Hezbollah through Lebanese politician Michel Aoun. 
The same Gilbert Chagoury who was convicted in Switzerland in 2000 for laundering money on behalf of Nigeria’s former military dictator, Sani Abacha. 
Chagoury denies the Hezbollah allegations. He has said so in court.
But the Swiss conviction is not an allegation.
The visa denial is not an allegation.
The FBI report is not an allegation.
The BVI company with the President’s son is not an allegation.
These are documented facts.

And it does not stop at one company.
Seyi Tinubu is also a board member of CDK Integrated Industries, a subsidiary of the Chagoury Group  — the same conglomerate whose parent company just received that $13 billion contract from his father’s government.
When Gilbert Chagoury turned 78 in 2024, President Tinubu issued a public birthday tribute calling him “a valued and treasured person.” “With friends like him,” the President wrote, “one can sleep with a still mind.” 
One can sleep with a still mind.
While Nigerians cannot sleep at all — crushed by fuel prices, a collapsed naira, and a cost-of-living crisis that this same administration has presided over.

Then came the honour.
President Tinubu awarded Gilbert Chagoury the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger — Nigeria’s second-highest national honour. 
A man with a Swiss money laundering conviction.
A man on a U.S. terrorism screening database.
Nigeria’s second-highest honour.

The question this country must answer.
Nigeria has a process for awarding contracts. It is called competitive public tender. It exists precisely to prevent a president’s business circle from feeding at the national table.
It was bypassed entirely.
Nigeria has ethics rules about conflicts of interest. They exist to prevent the families of sitting presidents from holding positions inside companies receiving state contracts.
They appear to mean nothing here.
And Nigeria has a constitution. It does not grant executive power to unelected sons. It does not authorise the children of presidents to operate as shadow business partners of government contractors while their fathers sign the cheques.
Seyi Tinubu was not elected.
He was not vetted.
He was not confirmed by any legislative body.
He answers to no one.
And yet his fingerprints are on an offshore company, a contractor’s boardroom, and the architecture of a $13 billion deal that belongs to the Nigerian people.
The question is not whether this looks corrupt.
The question is: what exactly would corruption have to look like before Nigeria demanded accountability?

CLARIFICATIONS ON TERRORIST ATTACKS ON BORNO COMMUNITIES, TROOPS’ GALLANTRY A HEROIC SACRIFICE

The Nigerian Army has noted with concern a report published by Sahara Reporters alleging that over 40 soldiers were killed during recent terrorist attacks in parts of Borno State. The report, which relied largely on unverified sources, presents a distorted account of the incident and fails to reflect the gallant efforts of troops who bravely defended communities against coordinated terrorist assaults.

The attacks on the multiple communities occurred when remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists, who had earlier been dislodged from the Sambisa Forest during sustained offensive operations by troops, regrouped and launched coordinated night attacks from multiple directions on vulnerable communities and troops location around Konduga, Ngoshe, Mainok and Jakana general areas.

The troops on ground responded swiftly and fought gallantly to repel the terrorists and defend the affected communities. During the intense engagements, a number of terrorists were neutralized. Sadly, a Commanding Officer and some brave soldiers paid the supreme price while courageously confronting the attackers and preventing further devastation on other communities.

It is important to note that the troops were not overrun as portrayed in the report. Rather, they engaged the terrorists from multiple fronts in a determined effort to protect innocent civilians and restore normalcy. The attackers also employed indiscriminate explosives and heavy night gunfire, which regrettably resulted in civilian casualties as many residents were caught in the crossfire created by the terrorists’ reckless actions.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has since visited the theatre of operations in Maiduguri where he met with troops and commanders to reassess the operational situation and strengthen ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. During the visit, he directed the immediate reinforcement of troops and deployment of additional equipment to the affected areas to sustain the momentum against the fleeing terrorists.

The Nigerian Army remains resolute and committed to decisively dealing with the terrorists and ensuring that such attacks are decisively thwarted. Coordinated ground and air operations are currently ongoing to pursue the fleeing terrorists, dismantle their regrouping elements and rescue civilians who may have been abducted during the attacks.

Members of the public are therefore urged to disregard exaggerated and misleading reports aimed at undermining the morale of troops who continue to make enormous sacrifices in defence of the nation.
The Nigerian Army assures Nigerians that it will maintain the operational momentum until all terrorist elements are completely neutralized.
