HDFC Bank first dragged my CIBIL Score down to 615, then an RBI Ombudsman complaint made the same bank start chasing me.

I had applied for a Credit Card, but the bank rejected my application.

Then, a few days later, the exact same card arrived at my doorstep with a ₹500 joining fee.

I went to the branch to sort it out, and the employee told me

"Just do not pay the fee and do not activate the card, it will automatically get cancelled."

I trusted his advice.

But that’s where the real nightmare began.

The card was not cancelled.

Instead, the bank kept reporting defaults for 3 months, and my CIBIL Score eventually dropped to 615.

When I complained, instead of taking responsibility,

I was given a lecture about being more financially responsible.

So I waited, gathered all the documentation, and finally took the matter to the RBI Ombudsman.

And suddenly, everything changed.

Calls from the Branch Manager
Calls from Senior Officers
First, they offered an NOC

Then, they requested me to withdraw the complaint

The same bank that had earlier dismissed my complaint was now saying

"Madam, we will completely clean your CIBIL history, just withdraw the complaint."

But this time, I refused to back down.

The result ?

Within just 3 weeks, all the late payment and default remarks related to that incident were removed from my CIBIL report,

and my credit history was restored.

The same bank that had initially treated me as if I was at fault was now trying desperately to convince me.

One small mistake can cause months of damage to your credit profile.

So never blindly trust verbal advice from bank employees.

Keep records of every conversation, monitor your CIBIL regularly,

and if the bank refuses to resolve a genuine complaint, take it to the appropriate regulatory channel.

Because sometimes, one properly documented complaint can completely change a bank’s tone.

Have You Heard of Belli Lalitha?

Belli Lalitha was one of the seven siblings in her family, she had no formal education and in fact worked as a labourer in a spinning mill.

At the age of 25, she became so powerful that governments and people in power feared her.
So much so that she was chopped into 17 pieces and her body was strewn across in Bhongir, Telangana.

Belli Lalitha was a traditional Oggu Katha singer. She was fondly called “Telangana Gana Kokila”; Nightingale of Telangana. She founded the Telangana Kala Samithi.

Though not properly educated, she used her lived experiences of being a labourer in a spinning mill & wrote and sang songs that reverberated amongst Telangana public, especially women.

She became voice of the oppressed Telangana public and questioned the existing Andhra rule.

Demanding for a separate state, she sang with her heart in “Daga Padda Telangana” Sabha. She became an icon for separate Telangana movement in Bhongir, Warangal, Medak, Mahabubnagar.

She also rescued many women who have been pushed into prostitution in Hyderabad.

On 26th May 1999, Lalitha came back home from wok and stepped out for a meeting and never came back home. Police refused to acknowledge her missing case. When people started agitating a district level police officer went to the extent of saying they would have encountered have they caught her and wouldn’t simply arrest her.

A fake letter in her name was circulated. Her character was assassinated by a few media houses. Entire 10 districts of Telangana people started coming on to the streets and questioning the government.

After four days, a woman’s dismembered body parts were found in an agricultural well. Police denied they are Belli Lalitha’s. For 13 days police kept recovering a woman’s body parts across Bhongir.

Finally! On 10th June 1999 midnight, Lalitha’s head was found.

Thousands attended her funeral and people raised slogans against the then CM Chandrababu Naidu and Home Minister Alimineti Madhava Reddy. People till today believe that Madhava Reddy started getting jittery about Lalitha’s rising popularity in Bhongir, his constituency. She was to contest in the elections too.
And it is widely believed that they wanted to even silence the Telangana statehood voices.

Police and government tried to pass her murder as a murder of passion. They demeaned her character and spread vicious stories about her. But her brother Krishna fought and filed a case on gangster Nayeem who executed similar murders earlier.

Much later, police said gangster Nayeem’s brother Alimuddin and his associate was behind Lalitha’s murder. Her brutal murder angered and inspired many to join the separate Telangana movement.

She was as powerful as Gaddar but being a woman from golla-kuruma community, her story was largely remains untold.

Belli Lalitha was a voice of resistance, a voice that made powerful people uncomfortable.

If you have been to S.R.Nagar in Hyderabad, you would have seen this statue at the junction right near to the Metro.

That is of Chadalavada Umesh Chandra, one of the finest cops ever, who took on both the Naxals and Factionists.

And paid for it with his life at a very young age of 33.

Hailing from Guntur dt, a Gold Medallist in Economics from Osmania University, joined the IPS in 1991.

His very first posting was in Warangal( Rural) dt between 1992-94, then a hotbed of Naxals. Both as a trainee and ASP he cracked down ruthlessly on Naxals, leading teams.

Then served in Kadapa dt twice, first as ASP( Pulivendula) between 1994-95 and later SP( Kadapa) from 1995-97. Took on the powerful faction lords, ruthlessly cracked down on gambling dens, anti social elements.

Again between 1997-98 served in Karimnagar, another Naxal hotbed, where he ruthlessly cracked down on many.

He was also known as a people's cop, interacting with ordinary citizens, hearing their problems, organizing Jana Jagruti sessions.

Sadly thanks to dirty politicking of some top police offers, he was transferred Welfare and Sports dept, as AIG. Even there he led initiatives for computerization, welfare of police employees.

September 4, 1999 shot dead in broad daylight at S.R.Nagar junction, the statue in his honor is located at the very same spot.

Questions were raised to the top brass as to why proper protection was not given to him, knowing he was on the hit list of Naxals.

A true hero, who died young, who earned the respect of fellow police, ordinary people, Chadalavada Umesh Chandra, salute.

Sohan, a Class 12 student, was travelling by bus to visit relatives when it was abruptly stopped near Malhargarh (MP). A few men, later identified as cops, boarded the bus and dragged him off in full public view.

There was no explanation, no warrant, and no prior FIR. He was picked up merely on suspicion of carrying drugs, despite being arrested completely empty-handed.

When the police realised no drugs had been recovered, they chose not to let their “seamless operation” go to waste. They planted 2.7 kg of opium, said to be seized in another case, on Sohan, registered an FIR showing recovery from him, and told the media they had busted a major narcotics syndicate. He was then produced in court and sent to jail.

What they failed to anticipate was that the bus had CCTV, which clearly showed Sohan being taken away empty-handed, pointing to planted evidence. When the video went viral, the police initially denied that the men were cops, only worsening their position.

The case reached the High Court, which summoned the SP. The SP admitted that Malhargarh police acted illegally and outside the law, apologised, and ordered a departmental inquiry against the officers involved. Sohan was released after two months of illegal detention.

Ironically, Malhargarh police station had been awarded as one of the best in the country by the Home Minister. If this is how the “best” station works, one can only imagine the rest. It is frightening how easily the police can ruin a life in this country. Without CCTV, Sohan’s life would have been destroyed forever.
